NYC Metal Newcomers LOSS BECOMES Featuring Esteemed Chef Brian Tsao Debut with New Single and Video, “Focus”

LOSS BECOMES to Perform at Metal Injection’s Stay at Home Virtual Festival on December 18

Anyone who knows esteemed Chef Brian Tsao knows that he loves his metal licks as much as his tasty licks. So it was only a matter of time before Tsao threw his chef hat into the metal ring. Introducing his new band LOSS BECOMES and their first single, “Focus,” available today.

“The band name LOSS BECOMES is centered around the idea of learning from your mistakes,” guitarist-chef says. “There’s a lot to be gained from loss, because it’s often the catalyst for change… for better or worse.”

The debut video from LOSS BECOMES, a modern take on classic metalcore with hardcore tendencies, premiered yesterday with Metal Injection. “Focus” is available now via all digital music providers at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/lossbecomes/focus.

“‘Focus’ is about finding the truth within a relationship,” explains vocalist Anthony Copozzi. “Who are truly your friends? Who has your back? How badly do you need or want them in your life?”

Recognized nationally for defeating Bobby Flay on his eponymous show Beat Bobby Flay, and regionally for leading the kitchen at Beauty & Essex NYC, Tsao is not your typical chef – he wants to fill your ears as much as he wants to fill your belly. With a heavy appetite for heavy music, Tsao picked up his guitar and was ready for a new adventure, so he reached out to friends Alec Kossoff and Will Gomez, both established musicians in the heavy music scene. Kossoff, previously of DC-based progressive metal act Wings Denied, had relocated to NYC where he made his mark as a professional acrobat, stunt man and trapeze instructor.  Gomez, a hospital radiologic technologist who continues to work through the Covid outbreak since March, earned his stripes as the former bassist of NYC bands Johnny Cage is a Fake and Tiger Flowers.

In the bowels of an NYC practice room called Funkadelic, the trio carved and shaped their varying styles, writing together for months until LOSS BECOMES was born. In search of a powerful voice to complete the circle, all roads led to Anthony Copozzi who earned his vocal chops as lead singer of Long Island metal act Thracian.

“When I first started working with Brian Tsao, his riffs were super whack,” Gomez recalls. “I almost quit on the third practice session, but we finally wrote something that wasn’t complete shit and LOSS BECOMES was born.”

“‘Focus’ was one of the first LOSS BECOMES songs we wrote,” adds Kossoff. “It really played a key role in helping us find our sound as a band.”

LOSS BECOMES’ music is unforgivingly aggressive and executed with intensity and vigor. Copozzi’s ferocious enthusiasm can be heard on every lyric, giving the band what can only be described as a full aural assault.

LOSS BECOMES’ debut full-length was recorded at Long Island’s Westfall Recording Co. with producer Anthony Lopardo at the helm (Moon Tooth, Johnny Booth, Give Up The Goods). The album is scheduled for release next year. In the meantime, be sure to check out LOSS BECOMES next Friday, December 18 at Metal Injection’s Stay at Home virtual festival, where the band will have a three-song performance featured.
