Following four EPs and more, Massachusetts’ ripping noise rock trio THE FRĒQS presents their long-awaited debut album, No God On The Gold Coast, announcing tour dates in support of the record, posting preorders, and issuing its lead track and a corresponding video, “John Travolta.”

Aiming to shape a new era for THE FRĒQS with a darker, more chaotic and frantic new direction, No God On The Gold Coast rips through eight songs in less than twenty-six minutes, boiling their infectious noise/indie-rock influenced punk energy down to an even more potent and grimy bisque than ever before. Snarling feedback is held at bay only by the barbed-wire chords while hammering rhythms drive the low-end currents beefing with the vocal dirge.

Chaotic and unhinged don’t quite apply, as the record flows with greased perfection, thanks to the prime production. The record was produced, engineered, and mixed by Alex Allinson at The Bridge Sound & Stage Music (Isis, Lesotho, Miracle Blood), mastered by Keith Gentile at Labyrinth Audio, and completed with artwork by Ellis Roundy (The P.A.’s, Pink Lids). Additional vocals are provided by area noiseboys Nicholas Pentabona (BEDTIMEMAGIC) on “Lo IQ” and Andrew Wong (Miracle Blood) on “Secondhand Jesus.” Fans of Unsane, Karp, Laughing Hyenas, Pissed Jeans, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, McClusky, God Bullies, Cherubs, Intercourse, Melvins, and Miracle Blood will no doubt dig THE FRĒQS.

The lead single from No God On The Gold Coast arrives in the form of album opener “John Travolta,” adjoined by a video by Wiktor Lekston (Cult Nug Vids). Seth Crowell writes, “Wild, raw, and noise-tinged, ‘John Travolta’ was inspired by an emerging digital era inundated with dead faces brought back to life. From hologram concert series’ and AI post-mortem star cameos to Facebook profiles of dead friends, it seems like we’re entering a world where no one is allowed to die and rest if their image remains profitable.”

Formed in 2019, THE FRĒQS (pronounced Freaks) crafts a distinctive and debilitating brew of riff-heavy, fuzzed-out, noise rock, taking influence from bands like Melvins, Queens Of The Stone Age, and The Jesus Lizard into crushing and dirge-strewn realms. Across four EPs and several singles, the power trio – guitarist/vocalist Seth Crowell, bassist/vocalist Ian Mandly, and drummer Zack Fierman – was nominated for Best Rock Artist Of The Year at the Boston Music Awards in 2021.

In 2023, THE FRĒQS released their fourth EP, Poachers, to critical acclaim from around the globe. Everything Is Noise called their output, “…animalistic energy with monolithic riffs, holler-along-to hooks with sludgy-sensibility, and noise rock attitude with overtones of classic rock.” The Sleeping Shaman wrote, “…they seamlessly straddle the blurred lines of infectious heavy rock, fuzz, and post-punk.” Distorted Sound Magazine’s review boasted, “…the interesting blend of punk and stoner is quite exciting; gang vocals and thunderous, fuzzy stoner riffs are certainly a winning combination… everything you could possibly need from a stoner album with a wonderfully gritty and raw punk edge that makes you want to thrash around with reckless abandon.” Metal Epidemic raved, “You’ve got these harshly fuzz-lead guitar lines that produce nasty doom-entrenched riffs in attacking form, the Sabbath style riffs that border on that modern psych sound more on the level of King Gizzard or Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, and roaring tempos that split between a stoner doom trudge to ferocious hardcore swiftness.” THE FRĒQS broke their silence at the end of 2025 and released singles “Jellyfish Cadaver” and “Tag Maggot” to announce the band’s next chapter, their debut LP, No God On The Gold Coast.
