REVIEW – GYPSYFINGERS debut record Circus Life is something quite impressive, it’s very buzz-worthy. When it seems like almost all music these days comes across as the same old, same old, here comes a band like the GYPSYFINGERS. They really challenge the boundaries and not only create good music, but very emotional music. You can tell track to track this band put its passion, heart and soul into every word and every note. On first listen you can hear influences as varied from Belle and Sebastian, Sigur Ros, Stars, and the Joy Formidable. Victoria seems to have this folk and Alternative mix to her vocals, at times she is soothing and very dream pop in her backing vocals, but when she takes over the vocal delivery she showcases so much depth and pure emotion. When Luke takes over the vocal duties like on tracks like “Return” his vocals seem to recall 70’s folk like Jim Croce. The songs on this album showcase that this band can take simple things like a piano or strumming on a guitar and really make it stand out and carry such a passion. I found myself, during most of these tracks, wanting to hear them again before the next song. “This is the Way”, “Eating Me” and “You” are just songs that I can see playing on an art house film credits and getting people to stick around after the credits to hear the whole song. “Lump” was the surprise of this album, almost like a piano version of PORTISHEAD, this song is another one of those songs that once you hear it, you cannot stop wanting to listen to it. I love the dreams-cape that this music created, each song felt almost like a film score made out of dreams. If I had any negative about this album it is that 10 songs at 41 minutes was not enough. It just seems that when this album really gets going and has you deep into this world they created it just ends, but I also feel this can get people really excited about what the future holds for this band. This band and this album is something that I feel if the magazines or critics discover this record, people are going to catch on. This album could be one of the best discoveries of 2014. Very impressive record, that if you are a fan of any band mentioned in this review, you should not be reading this anymore and trying to find out how to own this album.
