Decibel Magazine presents an exclusive premiere of Industries Of The Fading Sun, the debut EP from Maine-based atmospheric black metal duo NAMEBEARER, streaming the entire record in advance of its release this Friday.
Shimmering with grim, heavy energy, Industries Of The Fading Sun conjures hazy visions of an apocalyptic world, the two members merging progressive, psychedelic, and atmospheric elements to craft a visceral and immersive sound. Industries Of The Fading Sun envelops listeners in a gripping exploration of a planet teetering on the edge of oblivion. The lyrics were written in English and then translated to Finnish with the assistance of Veera Anttila. Blending their distinct influences with their evolving collaborative energy, NAMEBEARER continues to carve out a space in the musical landscape, where emotional depth and experimental sound converge.
Recorded by the band, Industries Of The Fading Sun was mixed by Brian Tenison and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios (The Body, Magic Circle, Magrudergrind), and the record is completed with logo, cover art, and layout by Shannon Jordan.
Brian Tenison reveals, âIndustries Of The Fading Sun is the culmination of our vision to break away from convention and embrace unfiltered expression. Throughout the writing and recording process, we followed instinct over calculation, committing to what felt honest in each moment. As the lyrics came together, images of the death of a planet driven by human inhabitants slowly took shape. This EP lives in that world â where religion, greed, and other human pursuits have failed. It follows the last remaining survivors as they navigate a dying landscape, the steps that led them to this point and the uncertainty of what lies ahead.â
Decibel writes, âEach song is given enough room to spread out without going on too long. The vocals, performed by both members, alternate between a howl and something best described as a sung chant. The lyrics were written in English and later translated to Finnish, differentiating NAMEBEARER from other USBM acts. The atmosphere on Industries Of The Fading Sun is often oppressive, but itâs pulled out of the darkness with the soaring melodies that uplift the songs.â

NAMEBEARER was formed in 2023 as a solo project by founding member Brian Tenison (Eave, Obsidian Tongue-live), with the initial vision focused on crafting a demo driven by raw emotion and unfiltered expression. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Abigor, Circle Of Ouroborus, and Blut Aus Nord, the early stages of the project were marked by a sense of immediacy and atmospheric intensity. The project evolved quickly, however, when fellow Mainer and close friend and collaborator Brendan Hayter (Obsidian Tongue, Obsequiae-live, Thrawsunblat) was brought on board to contribute session drums. This collaboration proved essential, culminating in the release of Demo I, which marked NAMEBEARERâs first steps as a musical entity.
Soon after the demoâs release, Hayter became a full-time member, not only taking on a permanent role behind the drums but also contributing to the bandâs expanding sound through contributions of vocals and synthesizers. With both members fully immersed in the creative process, NAMEBEARER embarked on their first complete artistic statement, which now emerges with the new EP, Industries Of The Fading Sun â a work which captures the strong synergy between the duo while exploring new depths of their shared vision.
