New Music Review: PTOLEMEA ‘Maze’

REVIEW – Luxembourg-based alternative/grunge rock group Ptolemea debuts a new EP titled Maze. Ptolemea is a female fronted group with: Remo Cavallini: Lead Guitar Yves Oek: Bass Martin Schommer: Drums Christophe Reitz: E-Violin Priscila Da Costa: Vocals & Guitar.

The first song “Time has come” showcases Priscilla Da Costa’s soulful against enticing electric guitars to offer a rich sound drawing the listener in. The following song “Run” begins a lolling pace reminiscent of 90s band Soundgarden. The song continues with a hypnotizing engaging setting. “Isolated” scales back on sound focusing on Priscilla’s raw and rich voice. “I wish I could” starts with a steady guitar beat that takes the lead in this song. Title track “Maze” emblazes the close of the album with searing guitars, defying drums, and Priscilla’s vocals to bring the album to a strong finish.

Ptolemea’s musical style contains emotional depth and raw energy that is make the listener keep coming back for more. For fans who especially like Alice in Chains, PJ Harvey, Beth Hart, Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, Ptolemea is a definite must listen. For anyone looking for a new rock band will not be disappointed by this new EP.
