Salem, Massachusetts’ THE FREQS have issued an official video for “Poacher Gets The Tusk,” a track found on their slamming new EP, Poachers, which saw release at the beginning of February. The video makes its public debut through a premiere hosted by Everything Is Noise.

THE FREQS formed on the north shore of Massachusetts in 2019 by guitarist/vocalist Seth Crowell and bassist/vocalist Ian Mandly, with the lineup solidifying in 2020 after the addition of drummer Zack Fierman. Together, the trio crafts a distinctive sound at the intersection of genres. Nominated for Best Rock Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards in 2021, the power trio continues to lash ear drums with their bombastic live set across New England and beyond. THE FREQS crew oozes high-octane, dirty, fun, heavy rock and will make you believe in the magic of live music all over again.

Delivering fuzzed-out, psych-punk, stoner rock, and sledgehammering noise at a crushing decibel, THE FREQS’ fourth EP, Poachers, explores a range of topics surrounding the history of Salem, including the flagship single “Witch” as the band’s Seth Crowell is a descendant of Rebecca Nurse, one of the witches hanged during the Salem Witch Trials. The record was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Alex Allinson at Bridge Sound And Stage in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and completed with cover photography by Colby Todisco. The tracks “Powertrippin’” and “Witch” feature additional backing vocals by Nicholas Pentabona (Bedtimemagic).

With the vivid new video, Crowell reveals, “Once we began writing ‘Poacher Gets The Tusk,’ it became immediately clear that it would serve as the opening track for the next release. Then during early talks about making a music video, this was the obvious pick because of its hooky nature and groove which we felt would pair well with a visual narrative. The creators of this video (Colby Todisco and Dave Apostolides) both worked tirelessly to storyboard an original concept which could honor and invoke the same message as the song. THE FREQS are deeply grateful for their vast contributions as well as the whole staff involved credited at the end.”

Everything Is Noise writes with the video’s premiere, “The trials and tribulations of the times seeped into the band’s already explosive output, materializing in the form of a new EP entitled Poachers. It’s got animalistic energy with monolithic riffs, holler-along-to hooks with sludgy-sensibility, and noise rock attitude with overtones of classic rock.”
