THE DRYES
ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE
“HOUSE ON FIRE”
SET FOR RELEASE ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11
NASHVILLE, TN (January 27, 2022) — The Dryes, the husband-wife country duo of Katelyn and Derek Drye — known for their captivating sonics and deep storytelling — are ready to share “House On Fire” on Friday, February 11. Co-written with Brian Elmquist (member of The Lone Bellow) and Jacob Sooter, the new single is a passionate make-up song, pointing back to the initial desires felt from a burgeoning relationship. This is immediately understood when you first hear the gripping lyric, “kiss me like you did when we didn’t have shit, don’t let me forget.“
If ever the world needed the music of Nashville-based duo The Dryes, it is now.
Unlike so many others desperately searching for a filter to clean up their messy lives, Katelyn and Derek Drye have jump started their career via true and utter authenticity. They live a life filled with happiness and love and pain and struggle, an emotional mixture that makes for explosive music.
Since moving into their little home on one big acre, the life and career of this modern Johnny and June has transformed before their very eyes, as the two now find themselves on the cusp of country music stardom with a kaleidoscope of music, from their previous sassy and powerful single “Dolly Would,” to the forthcoming sexy and sensual “House on Fire.”
In 2008, fate brought together the sassy 19-year-old Katelyn with the determined 22-year-old Derek, and sparks flew. Soon, the two began playing local bars and writing some songs and found themselves increasingly intrigued by the harmonies that resulted when they would join their tremendous voices together.
And 10 years ago, last November, they got married.
But life hasn’t always been perfect or pretty. They faced extraordinary losses and unfathomable tragedies. They lived on credit cards and ramen noodles, they had doors slammed in their faces and a scattering of dollar bills stuffed into tip jars, not nearly enough to pay the bills that waited for them on Monday. But they persevered.
“I knew all along that Derek and I were supposed to be together, and we were supposed to make music together,” Katelyn says quietly. “It’s never been perfect, but we have always known that we have a story to tell.”
They began writing with some of the genre’s finest writers, finding ways to put their soul on paper and make it look effortless. In 2018, The Dryes found success with the ultra-powerful song “War,” which touched on the dire pain of Derek’s mom’s suicide when he was just a baby. And it was within that searing pain that listeners heard in the song — and in the entirety of their debut EP Vol. 1 — that a growing legion of fans found a refuge of sorts within this couple that refused to shy away from their truth. And they did it all independently, playing by their own rules. Today, “War” has gone on to amass six million streams, on Spotify alone.
The incredible story of The Dryes has been profiled in prestigious publications such as PEOPLE, ROLLING STONE, CMT and AMERICAN SONGWRITER, and their music — and their relatable life — has gone viral on TikTok. As their stars begin to rise at warp speed, the two remain grounded within the ideals they have lived their lives by.
“I want people to hear what we’ve gone through when we sing,” Derek explains. “All the joy and all the heartache and all our faith that helps bind it together. That’s what we want them to hear in our music.”
Today, The Dryes represent a couple that is as sassy as they are sensual and as mysterious as they are open, while at the same time showcasing a relatability that comes when one exposes one’s soul, as messy as that soul might be.
“We know who we are, and we know what our sound is, and we know our story,” concludes Katelyn. “This is who we are, and this is our life. And we invite our fans into that life.”
