Exclusive Interview with Kyriakos “Charlie” Tsiolis of AFTERMATH

AFTERMATH – the progressive thrash metal band from Chicago – have announced their upcoming album ‘There is Something Wrong’ their first album since their 1994 debut ‘Eyes of Tomorrow’. Aftermath were one of the original crossover bands of the 1980’s and one of the most technical thrash metal bands of their time. Infrared Magazine had the privilege of sitting down with AFTERMATH‘s Kyriakos “Charlie” Tsiolis.

INFRARED MAG: Who are some of your influences in music?

AFTERMATH: I get this question asked a lot over the years. I don’t have influences really. When it comes to writing our songs no specific band has influenced us. The music we write is heavy, we have been influenced by styles of music – mainly metal and the various genres within it have been an influence and in our early days hardcore and punk also influenced us.

INFRARED MAG: What do you think of Antifa? I ask because in Oregon and Antifa protested against the mentors show due to some of their lyrics.

AFTERMATH: You hear all the different theories about Antifa. Some say its organic and others claim it’s all fake. George Soros is believed to be behind them. He’s a globalist and I’m totally against that. The elite agenda of a new world order is evil. I believe in freedom of speech. I’m a Mentors fan anyone that protests them I’m against.

INFRARED MAG: Do you write your music with a political message that you’re trying to convey to fans?

AFTERMATH: It isn’t really political in what most consider political. What I mean is this, I don’t pick one side over the other. They both suck. The two parties are controlled by the real ones with the power. The actors in the White House are playing their roles and the masses argue over the nonsense. Our new album There is Something Wrong is an 11 song concept record all about what is wrong with the world. It asks the listener to research and find the truth behind who controls our governments. Who controls the money? Who makes all the decisions? Why are we always at war? It is much more than politics, it is about religion, banks, lawyers and doctors, teachers – the system that brainwashes us at an early age to believe what they want us to believe.

INFRARED MAG: If you could give advice to the Next Generation what would that be?

AFTERMATH: Question everything. I mean everything. It is time to wake up and realize there are a handful of people that control everything and it isn’t the people we elect. The more people wake up, the more power we get. Those in control don’t give a shit about the masses. If we don’t wake up, then things will only get worse.

INFRARED MAG: What group or person would you like to do a show with?

AFTERMATH: We would love to do a show with Metallica. Anyone that wouldn’t is crazy. A gig with Slayer would be cool. On a smaller scale a tour with Voivod. From the newer bands – even though they aren’t that new anymore a tour with Municipal Waste would be a good fit.

: Is there any new bands out there that you have been listening to and like?

AFTERMATH: We have been so busy with this record and videos that I haven’t really listened to any new bands lately.

: I’m looking forward to hearing more from your group, is there something you are working on now?

AFTERMATH: Like I said the new record is about to be released. So far the only new material we have released is the song and lyric video for a song called Smash Reset Control that I believe you have heard. It is a crossover thrash song – a song that sounds like our early stuff. We will be releasing the new record soon.

: Is there anything you would like to add in closing?

AFTERMATH: Thanks so much to you and your readers. Visit our social media pages. We are about to launch our new website: www.AftermathChicago.com you will be able to stream our older music for free and if you want to buy it then you can do that off the site as well.
