REVIEW – From the cold shadows of Finland’s industrial underground, THE FAIR ATTEMPTS emerge once more with “Apart”—a cinematic, emotionally charged single that pulses with longing, isolation, and bittersweet resilience. Released independently on February 28, the track is a haunting collaboration with renowned Finnish producer Jaani Peuhu, who also lends his voice to the song’s aching duality.

Apart isn’t just a title—it’s a state of being. With its hypnotic blend of electro-industrial, darkwave, and synthpop, the track creates a world where sorrow sways to the beat, where pain is dressed in black velvet and invited to the dancefloor. It’s gothic club fuel for the introverted soul—a dirge with a pulse.

There’s elegance in the suffering here. Timo Haakana, the project’s sole architect, captures a specific kind of ache: the one that lives not in chaos, but in quiet estrangement. “I’ve carried my sorrow like a crown,” he says—and you feel every word in the texture of this song. It’s a track built on contrasts: fragility wrapped in machinery, grief woven through groove.

Peuhu’s presence deepens the atmosphere, his vocals adding a mirrored reflection to Haakana’s inner monologue. It’s like hearing two timelines—two fractured versions of the same person—echo across a lonely room. Together, their voices create a spectral harmony, suspended in a world that’s falling apart yet beautifully composed.

Clocking in at 3:43, “Apart” is structured for both introspection and movement. The synths shimmer and decay like distant city lights; the beats are crisp, sharp, almost ceremonial. Every element feels intentional, from the lyrical minimalism to the ghostly production choices that make it feel like a love letter sealed in a time capsule.

But this isn’t just sonic brooding. Like all of THE FAIR ATTEMPTS’ work, there’s a dystopian pulse beneath the sorrow. The music exists in a not-so-distant future where society’s veneer is cracking—and all that’s left is the sound of our own echoes. This project has always dealt in darkness, but “Apart” sharpens that focus, showing that even in the void, beauty can bloom.

The result is a track that doesn’t scream—it breathes. It lingers. It hurts in high fidelity.
