Hurtwave Share New Song “My Father Said”

HURTWAVE, FEATURING DAYSEEKER VOCALIST RORY RODRIGUEZ + DRUMMER MIKE KARLE, SHARE NEW SONG “MY FATHER SAID” — LISTEN

Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez and drummer Mike Karle announced their new project Hurtwave earlier this year. As Hurtwave, the pair traffic in synths and the output is decidedly different than that of their main band.

The band, signed to Spinefarm Records, just shared “My Father Said.” Listen here.

“This song touches on what both my father and mother taught me in terms of relationships,” Rodriguez explains. “My father, hurt from the divorce from my mother, really never dated or remarried, and taught me to keep a guard over my emotions. My mother, having left my father, taught me to leave a situation before it has the chance to hurt me. Ultimately, it’s about a girl I met who made me want to do the opposite of what I learned from my parents. I wanted to stay and I wanted to let my walls down.”

Previous Hurtwave sonic transmissions include “Sever,” “Fever Dream,” and “Bleach.”

These tracks will appear on the band’s debut EP, Night Therapy I. The EP is being released as seven separate installments through the coming months.

Hurtwave was born when Rodriguez and Karle were drafting demos in GarageBand. These tracks “flourished into some of our proudest work yet,” Rodriguez explains. “Blending our real and emotional lyrics into a synthwave setting has created something really special for our listeners.”
