Celtic Punk makes its way to Dallas Texas. DROPKICK MURPHYS brought their brand of CELTIC PUNK to Southside Ballroom. Along with them was AMIGO THE DEVIL and BOOZE AND GLORY.
Starting off the night was AMIGO THE DEVIL. If you don’t know who AMIGO THE DEVIL is please go now and check him out. He reminds me of Tenacious D. Very funny, one man band. Songs range from Serial Killers to Spousal Abuse. I know it doesn’t sound like great content…but just listen before you judge. He was very entertaining and had everyone laughing.
Next was BOOZE AND GLORY, all the way from London. Booze & Glory play modern British Oi! with many singalongs and catchy rhythms. In their lyrics they cover many British topics, from singing about the working class to their description of the London skinhead scene via songs about drinking beer. Their lyrics show patriotism towards England and pride in London and West Ham United, however the band is also proud to have different nationalities as members and positions itself clearly against the right-wing Skinhead scene. The band defines itself as apolitical. A nice blend of rock and punk.
Last, but certainly not least, was the men of the night, the reason everyone came out with kilts and lots of green. DROPKICK MURPHYS. Celtic Punk at it’s finest! They did not disappoint with vocalists, Al Barr and Ken Casey stepping from the stage to the guardrail and interacting with fans. Jeff DaRosa and Tim Brennan wearing multiple hats through the night including a banjo, mandolin, accordion and guitars, to name a few. You also get to see Lee Forshner bring out the bagpipes. I have to say this was a great show with so much energy. Thanks to Southside Ballroom for bringing them out.
