ââ¦melodic invocations of infernal menace, stultifying misery, haunting eeriness, and towering black-shrouded grandeur⦠Sulphur is a tremendously good album and a very memorable one.â â No Clean Singing
Sulphur, the brutalizing new album from vile Midwest US black metal outfit BRINGERS OF DISEASE, is now streaming exclusively at No Clean Singing, ahead of its release this Friday on Disorder Recordings.
BRINGERS OF DISEASE ends a decade of dormancy, returning with renewed purpose and a formidable lineup. Founding guitarist Jason Phillips (ex-Acheron) and original vocalist Logan Madison lead the charge alongside returning member, Jeff Wilson (Chrome Waves, ex-Nachtmystium, ex-Wolvhammer). They are joined by powerhouse drummer Zack Simmons (Goatwhore, Acid Bath) and bassist Jon Woodring (Bones, ex- Usurper), completing a lineup steeped in metal pedigree and feral intensity. Fueled by a legacy built on raw aggression and occult fervor, with Sulphur, the cult is poised to unleash a new era of devastation, reaffirming their place in the pantheon of extreme metalâs most relentless practitioners.
Sulphur was engineered by the band, mixed and mastered by Jeff Wilson, and completed with cover art by Rio Oka and layout by Jeff Wilson. The album also features guest guitars on âFirst Born Of The Deadâ by Nate Garnett (Skeletonwitch) and on âFlowers Bloom From The Prophet’s Skullâ by Sonny Reinhardt (Necrot), and guest vocals on âSacred Heart Of The Abyssâ by Ben Falgoust (Goatwhore, Soilent Green).
Wilson states, “After not being involved in the project for over ten years, I was surprised at how easily this one initially came together. Looking forward to starting the next.”
Phillips reveals, âIf I was going to revive the beast known as BRINGERS OF DISEASE, I wasnât going to half-ass it. I believe this is one of the most potent line ups out there, and Sulphur is a testament to that.â
No Clean Singing writes, âIn some ways itâs as if BRINGERS OF DISEASE picked right up where they left off despite the elapse of years and the changes in lineup mentioned above, but the music is even more multi-faceted and mood-moving than before, a doubling-down on the atmospheric elements of their sound, if you will. These seven songs (which collectively add up to about half an hour of music) are still vicious, still dangerous to a listenerâs skeletal integrity, but they bring to the table even more instrumental nuance and even more powerfully evocative melodies â melodic invocations of infernal menace, stultifying misery, haunting eeriness, and towering black-shrouded grandeur⦠Sulphur is a tremendously good album and a very memorable one. Given the talent in the lineup, thatâs not shocking, but itâs very nice to see just how much thought they put into these new songs, which take BRINGERS OF DISEASE to a new level of allure.â

Emerging from the industrial shadows of Dayton, Ohio in 2008, BRINGERS OF DISEASE forged a singular path through the metal underground with a venomous blend of unholy rhythms and crushing intensity. Originally conceived by members of Acheron and Mouth Of The Architect, the bandâs inception turned heads due to its unusual fusion of backgrounds, melding primitive death metal with atmospheric undertones that defied easy categorization.
Their debut EP, Gospel Of Pestilence (2011, Translation Loss Records), introduced BRINGERS OF DISEASE as a force of unrelenting sonic blasphemy. Across four tracks of raw tremolo-picked assault, the EP captured a grim vision of the USBM movement that resonated with fans of both classic Scandinavian influences and American extreme music. The record was noted for its bone-chilling riffing, a testament to the bandâs commitment to uncompromising ferocity.
ââ¦Sulphur is a testament to a level of extremity that’ll rip your fucking face off.â â Metal Injection
