For the North American dates, the tour will include special guests: 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.
“THE WHO HITS 50!” tour will kick off its spring run April 15 in Tampa, FL and include 20 stops throughout the east before wrapping May 30 in Forest Hills, NY. The fall leg will launch September 14 in San Diego, CA and begin with west coast dates throughout the U.S. and across Canada before concluding November 4 in Philadelphia, PA. “Having Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, a great American rock band, support us on our North American dates will ensure concert-goers a full night of entertainment. I love her,” said Roger Daltrey.
“We’ve been very close friends with Joan Jett for a long time. She is the real deal. This will be a great night of rock and roll for everyone,” Pete Townshend said.
“After the Runaways ended, THE WHO and Bill Curbishley stepped up, and let me use their studio, Ramport. That gave me the freedom to start my label, Blackheart Records. I’ve modeled my career and my company after their amazing organization. I’m so happy to be part of their 50th anniversary tour. No one personifies Rock and Roll Royalty more than THE WHO,” said Joan Jett.
Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, she’s had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” She sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records. Jett has acted in movies and television, including 1987’s Light Of Day, and in a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, The Rocky Horror Show.
Since co-founding the Runaways, the pioneering all-girl punk quintet, at age 15, Jett’s determination and drive have kept her in the public eye. Jett was able to see her story told in The Runaways, the film which she Executive Produced based on (lead singer of The Runaways) Cherie Currie’s book Neon Angel starring Kristen Stewart as Jett, and her fellow A-lister Dakota Fanning as Currie. Jett served as an executive producer.
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts released their latest record, Unvarnished, last year and continue touring the globe.
