After a hiatus of more than two years, progressive rock unit THE CONTORTIONIST will return to the road this Fall on a month-long North American headlining tour. Set to commence on September 11th in Dallas, Texas and run through October 15th in the bandâs original hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana, the journey will feature the band performing, in two full sets, their 2014 Language full-length and 2010 debut studio album Exoplanet, two all time fan favorites, in their entireties! Continuing the bandâs tradition of innovative and boundary-pushing live performances, neither album has been performed live in its entirety ever before. Support will be provided by special guests Rivers Of Nihil who will be performing their latest full-length, The Work, in its entirety.
Comments Eric Guenther (keyboards), âIâve been asked to write a quote for this tour reflecting on the fact that every single person coming this Fall has given this band life and played a part in making a tour like this finally happen. Thank you so much. We miss all of you; see you soon.â
Adds Cameron Maynard (guitars), “Itâs been more than two years since weâve performed for a live audience, so we chose this opportunity to go back and celebrate two of our albums properly. These albums changed our lives – allowing us to expand into who we are today. We cannot wait to share this experience with all of you.”
VIP packages will include a chance for fans to have an exclusive listen to two never before heard tracks from the bandâs upcoming album, an intimate Q&A session, limited edition merchandise items, and more.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 24th at 10:00am local time. For presale and advance VIP access visit, thecontortionist.net with code available by mailing list sign-up. See all confirmed dates below.

THE CONTORTIONIST claimed adventurous and experimental progressive heavy metal as their stock in trade at their 2007 inception in the Indianapolis underground. Across four albums, theyâve crafted a musical identity championed by a diverse audience, demonstrated by the feverish support of fans whoâve seen them on tour with similarly-minded heavy music luminaries like Deftones, Periphery, Between The Buried And Me, and Animals As Leaders. The deathcore-infused brutality of Exoplanet (2010) and Intrinsic (2012) laid the foundation for the adventurous Language (2014), and Clairvoyant (2017), which earned perfect scores from several publications.
MetalSucks crowned the band âone of metalâs all-time greats,â while Metal Injection has likened their evolution to that of Opeth, Tesseract, and Anathema. âTHE CONTORTIONIST are evolving in rewarding fashion, and will continue to thrive due to a strong sense of notes, melody, experimentation, and atmosphere that is always present, no matter what musical direction they pursue,â gushed Sputnik Music. Even when angular riffs, odd-time signatures, and devastating breakdowns give way to hypnotic and ethereal trancelike musical meditations, the band never lacks in absolute power. While theyâve proven themselves masters of psychedelic enhanced experimentation and trippy melodicism, endearing them to fans of later period Enslaved and Sigur Ros alike, theyâve never fully forsaken the urgent impact of tech-leaning extremity. âFrom The Beatles to Pink Floyd to Mastodon, all the great rock bands in history have clear, non-linear musical trajectories,â Metal Sucks observed. âLiterally: no one else sounds like THE CONTORTIONIST even a little.â
