REVIEW – British power metal trailblazers FELLOWSHIP return with their highly anticipated sophomore album ‘The Skies Above Eternity’, releasing November 22, 2024 via Scarlet Records. After cementing their reputation with their debut and touring across Europe, Japan, and America, the band now raises the stakes with a collection that’s not only musically powerful but deeply poetic—an ode to resilience, camaraderie, and self-discovery.

The album bursts open with “Hold Up Your Hearts Again”, a fist-pumping, spirit-lifting anthem that blends shredding guitar, ethereal keys, and pounding rhythms. The vocals soar with purpose as frontman Matthew Corry declares, “Glory abounds in every soul that seeks the truth.” It’s the ultimate rallying cry to begin the journey.

“Victim” dives into a much more personal and emotional place. From aching vulnerability to a triumphant roar, the track builds from somber verses to epic crescendos. “I am lamb, and I am lion, I will be my own messiah,” Corry proclaims—one of the most powerful lines of the record.

“The Bitter Winds” follows with unity and resistance at its core. Driving rhythms and anthemic group vocals rise with conviction. “There is no substitute for hope,” becomes both mantra and mission as the band tears through a storm of melody and passion. Then comes “Dawnbreaker”, a cinematic gem that showcases Fellowship’s ability to blend storytelling and emotional resonance. It’s powerful, poetic, and delivered with pure theatrical flair.

The title track “Eternity” is a ballad of defiance, floating on a wave of symphonic beauty and lyrical courage. “If hope is all that’s left, unseal my heart,” echoes long after the final note. This is Fellowship at their most reflective and emotionally raw.

The energy returns with “King Of Nothing”, a blend of catchy riffs, screaming leads, and soaring choruses packed with introspection and grit. “World End Slowly” is one of the record’s most profound cuts—an epic power ballad that dares to stare into the void and smile. The hook-laden “A New Hope” beams with optimism and lyrical beauty: “Life may be fleeting, but memories last.” The album closes with the brief yet poignant “Memories On The Wind”, ending the journey on a breeze of quiet reflection.

‘The Skies Above Eternity’ is Fellowship’s most ambitious and emotionally rich work to date. From the soaring highs of symphonic power metal to the intimate lyrical storytelling, this record is equal parts triumphant and tear-jerking. Uplifting yet melancholic, theatrical yet grounded—Fellowship continues to redefine what it means to be powerful in metal.
