REVIEW – DAVEY SUICIDE gives zero fucks about where the music direction is currently residing at. This is a band that at times just tears the fuck out of this musical planet and pisses all over the ashes of the damage. Their debut album was the warning that they were “ready to set the world ablaze”. This time they are telling you that “It is time to rise above and not let people get to you”. This album challenges critics and fans. One minute they hit you with this hard hitting industrial nightmare that sounds like if Tim Skold had his balls slammed in a car door during the “Violent New Breed” era called “Rise Above”. Then they hit you with this catchy alternative song called “Dancing with the Reaper”. This song is that anthem that people live are going to eat up. This is the type of song that you could find on a “Fast and Furious” soundtrack and it would not feel out of place. “No Angel” is this eerie slower song that has this insane chorus that is not going to let you rest. “Too Many Freaks” is an arena filled goth mid rocker that is going to win over new fans. This is the song that would not feel out of place if you were finger banging a cashier inside Hot Topic. The song also features TWIZTID helping out, which is a win if you are fan of the guys.
It felt sort of odd and out of place, but it was not the worst. Davey to me seems to be going down the path of MARILYN MANSON on this album. It starts off with that call to arms anthem that gets people moving, then it sort of loses its focus and goes into all these other directions. “Torture Me” is another one of those goth rockers that feels more alternative than metal. That is not taking anything away from the feel and delivery. This is clearly a band who know how to compliment their lead singer. This is a band who is currently touring with DOPE and COMBICHRIST. Those two bands would be a perfect way to describe what Davey offers. He has the attitude and personality that those fan bases could get behind. Some may also say, buy into. The rest of the album has some good tracks, I did not mind the energy and passion that is all over the place on this record. This is clearly a band who would break down your family tree and beat the fuck out of you with each branch while laughing. I think a part of me was expecting more after their incredible last album. Another part of me is happy that there is no bad music or filler on this album. If anything, I guess this could be called a “safe record” for the band. They do venture into the deep a couple times, but they always seem to come back to familiar shores. I guess this album can be seen as the band needing the mainstream to jump on. Which is not bad. We all need to take our craft to as many people as possible. The album is good. The songs are very well structured and you can tell the band had the fans in mind all the way. I feel this band is getting close to being lumped in with all the other bands. That is a tragedy, I feel that this band has something very unique to offer at times and should be heard. If you are looking for a CD to throw in your Cd player in the car and hit the fucking gas to 100 nonstop, this is that album. This is an album to revenge fuck to.
