LEILA ABDUL-RAUF: Treble Premieres “Distortions in Phantasy I: Lure” Video; Fourth Solo Album From Vastum Guitarist/Vocalist, Phantasiai, Out Now + Vinyl Preorders Posted

Treble is hosting a new video for “Distortions in Phantasy I: Lure” by Oakland, California-based LEILA ABDUL-RAUF. The track is found on her cinematic fourth solo album, Phantasiai, which just saw release in mid-July, and is now awaiting its vinyl release in September.

Beyond the wide spectrum of acts LEILA ABDUL-RAUF is a full-time member of – including Vastum, Ionophore, Cardinal Wyrm, Fyrhtu, and more – her immersive solo work showcases her talents as a multi-instrumentalist. Weaving layered textures into drifting filmic compositions, Phantasiai conjures dreamlike, ambient hymns while channeling ethereal melancholy. More ominous and brooding than prior solo outings, with a deep sense of romanticism and dark classical inspiration, Phantasiai showcases another new direction of exploration of this vastly prolific musician.

Fully self-composed, recorded, and produced, Phantasiai was mastered by Cyclic Law, the stunning cover artwork was created by Matthew Jaffe, and graphic design was handled by Heresie Studio. The spellbinding new video was created by Ionophore bandmate Jan Hendrich.

With the new video, ABDUL-RAUF reveals, “Moving away from the warm dulcet tones of my previous work, ‘Lure’ sets the stage for what is to come: a glimpse into a mind slowly devolving into non-existence. Glock-melodies hammer like dripping icicles as dissonant seraphic calls beguile and beckon one into the perverse symphony of Phantasiai. Ionophore co-conspirator Jan Hendrich’s entrancing visual interpretation reveals a world of gauzy ethereality reminiscent of times past, hypnotizing us into the Void.”

With the video’s premiere, Treble calls the track, “a haunted instrumental work that mostly navigates within the ambient sphere while carrying shades of ’80s goth music such as Dead Can Dance or The Cocteau Twins at their most supernatural. It’s gorgeous and chilling, an eerie and fragile visit from an apparition, complete with dark visuals of swirling smoke and other abstract imagery.”
