LORD OF SHADOWS is a Gothic Doom Metal one-man project founded by the lyricist Shadows Valentine. The project is brought to life by phenomenal performances of well-known guest vocalists and musicians.
Shadows Valentine said about the album: "Echoes of Yore' is meant to overpower both the sacred and the profane, in order to establish itself as self-aware, redeeming its own existence at the very edge of doom genre itself… Following the hourglass of memories, from 'Her lips were poetry and doom…' through to 'Your blood weighs heavy…', each song is inspired by my own life and is connected to the next one, to form one sorrowful story of love and the acceptance of one's fate."
More than this, âEchoes Of Yoreâ builds its own universe of tragedy and doom, and offers the final surrender to the chaotic nature of the artist. Left with nothing more than the memory of her, having extinguished half of his own twin-flame, where the perception of love and death become equal to each other: her kiss means sacrifice; his art shall be the penanceâ¦Â
âHer Lips Were Poetry And Doomâ is the opening act of the album. Itâs about recollecting forgotten memories, while feeling death rapidly approaching; âFaith Of Thy Belovedâ is written in a moment of painful realization that humanity has completely lost its higher perception..the faith of an artist that lost a loved one, burns stronger at the bottom of society's pillars…; in âAt The End Of Our Eclipseâ her ether becomes more and more present, guiding his words, assuring him that even in death, she will always be by his side…still stricken by her loss, he sees himself wandering trapped within the laminal, seeking his way back to his beloved; âShe Was But An Echo Of Yoreâ is the fourth act of the album, telling the story of a timeless yet doomed romance while searching for one last embrace under the cosmic veil of death and misfortune; âThrough Memories, I Gave Her Lifeâ is an eternal requiem, where he remembers the moments prior to her death, as well as the fact that, by ripping the flowers of catatonic enlightenment, they call upon the earth' spirits, in order to turn back the hourglass of time, to the very moment that led to her death; the title of âIf The Tears Are Forgottenâ explains everything…as humans, paragons of quantic tears, to grieve, is by its own nature, a sin…a sin that he has already been punished for; the final chapter âYour Blood Weighs Heavyâ marks the seventh and last suicide attempt and encloses the story within its own beginning.Â
âWe are nothing but tears birthed by the ocean itself…and what are tears, if not the cleansed blood of grieving echoes…of yore.â
