Metallic hardcore, powerviolence, and harsh noise collide in a two-way split between Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas-based YATSU and Minneapolis, Minnesota-based WANDERER, out now on via The Ghost Is Clear Records and Mummified Gasp Records.
Coming hot on the heels of their 2023 debut full-length, It Canât Happen Here, YATSU returns with two new tracks that see the band continuing to refine their caustic mix of hardcore, grindcore, powerviolence, and noise rock. âOctober Seventhâ and âBiological Bullseyeâ churn with dissonant riffs, pummeling rhythms, and fiercely direct sociopolitical lyrics. Both tracks are tied together by spoken word passages referencing the horrors in Gaza, making these songs some of the bandâs most poignant material to date.
After the release of Indulgence Of The Unreal and its companion experimental collaboration Indulgence Remixed on February 25th of 2023 and 2024 respectively, WANDERER decided to re-imagine the first two songs from their 2016 record Gloom Daze. With a different vocalist and a whole new set of sonic tricks, WANDERER layer their newly evolved electronic-infused brutality into the framework of their older, more straightforward tracks. These re-recordings emphasize the sludge and death metal elements of the tracks while sharpening and honing the fast blasts of speed.
Comments YATSU, âThese two songs have been in heavy rotation in our sets for a while now and desperately needed a home. We played a trio of shows with WANDERER back in March 2024 and we all hit it off extremely well. So, it made sense to release these songs on a split with our new friends and have our riffs cozy up with one another. These tracks are probably some of our most hard-hitting thus far.â
Comments WANDERER, âWe clicked with the YATSU gang so well during our first shows together that it was almost inevitable that we would do a release together. YATSU is exactly the kind of music we think our world needs more of; music with a real message. Weâve been playing these songs for almost ten years, and they have evolved naturally through that experience, and recording them again in their new iterations seemed like a perfect way to call back to the beginnings of the band while also heavily hinting at our sonic future. This is also the debut release of our guitarist Brentâs new label Mummified Gasp, which we will be releasing new music through in the future as well.â
YATSUâs tracks were recorded, mixed, and mastered by Michael Briggs at Civil Audio in Denton, Texas. The instruments for WANDERERâs tracks were recorded live â engineered, mixed, and mastered by Adam Tucker at Signaturetone in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with the vocals and synths recorded by Dan Lee. All four tracks were mastered for the vinyl release by Michael Briggs, and the split was completed with cover art by Hell Simulation and layout by Morgan Carpenter.
