DEREK LERSCH
CELEBRATES DAUGHTER’S FIRST BIRTHDAY
WITH NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO
“GIRL DAD”
OUT TODAY, OCTOBER 13
100 PROOF EP OUT NOVEMBER 19
NASHVILLE, TN (October 13, 2021) — Florida-based country music artist Derek Lersch is releasing his new single “Girl Dad,” an emotional song he wrote for his daughter while his wife was pregnant. Released today, October 13 — Derek’s birthday — “Girl Dad” arrives the day after his daughter’s first birthday (10/12).
Laura Whitmore of PARADE gushed that “Derek Lersch wins ‘cutest video ever’ with a sweet tribute to ‘Girl Dad’…including tear-jerkingly cute imagery of Lersch with his little girl.” The music video accompanying the single also features footage of Lersch’s wedding day and his daughter.
Derek Lersch knew he needed a song about his daughter to round out his forthcoming EP, 100 Proof, that’s due out on November 19. “I’ll never forget the first time I heard the final track of ‘Girl Dad,’” says Lersch. “My wife and I woke Brooklyn up from her nap and we all listened to it together. I was holding her, and when it got to the first chorus this big smile came across her face — I lost it crying. I got hit with a wave of emotion holding her and listening to the song coming to life. ‘Girl Dad’ has always been an emotional one for me, but hearing the final product and holding her was just perfect.”

The movement of “#GirlDad” is undeniable. Over 2.5 billion users have viewed the hashtag on TikTok and over 1.5 million have actively used it on Instagram. A term sparked by the late NBA superstar Kobe Bryant, the label resonates deeply with fathers across the country.
“Being a ‘girl dad’ is a special title and it comes with a lot of responsibility,” says Lersch. “The relationship between a girl and her dad is very crucial and special. It’s my job as her father to show her how to love and be loved, to teach her how a man should treat her like the princess that she is and love her unconditionally. Being a girl dad is so rewarding and much more than I ever could’ve dreamed of and I couldn’t imagine it any other way.”
Lersch has a wild side which is evident in his high-energy live shows opening for artists such as Rodney Atkins and Jay Allen in addition to performing at Raymond James Stadium and Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. “There’s nothing better than a crowd’s energy and emotions. It’s what truly drives me,” says Derek, who has played over 350 shows in the past four years.
