DAVE STEWART AND FRIENDS’ shows at The Troubadour in Los Angeles are always filled with musical fireworks and surprises, and the most recent one–this past Monday (October 3)–was a real roof-raiser, thanks to the special guest appearance by JON STEVENS. The New Zealand singer and songwriter’s hard-charging performance with STEWART and his band marked the debut of songs from STEVENS’ new album that was produced and co-written by STEWART. It will be released early next year (title, label and exact release date TBA).
At the packed Troubadour, thesinger, songwriter and co-founder of Eurythmics kicked off the set with songs like “Beast Called Fame” and “Magic In The Blues” from his solo albums, and then switched gears for an extra moody version of the Eurythmics’ “Here Comes The Rain Again” and an instrumental duet of his chart-topping “Lily Was Here” with acclaimed saxophonist Michael Lington. Next, STEWART was joined by STEVENS for deeply soulful rocking songs from the upcoming album including “Devil In My Heart,” “Oh Lord,” “Feel Like Letting Go,” “Scars,” “Starlight,” “What Makes You Happy” “Something About You” (featuring Australian singer-songwriter VANESSA AMOROSI), “Hold On,” and “All About The People.” STEVENS floored the crowd with the force and delivery of his captivatingly raspy voice, and the night concluded with thunderous applause for an encore oftheEurythmics’ gems “Missionary Man” and “Sweet Dreams,” with STEVENS and AMOROSI memorably wrapping their voices around each other.

STEVENS’ decorated career encompasses a record-smashing debut at age 16 with two consecutive No. 1 singles in his New Zealand homeland, huge hits in Australia as lead singer with Noiseworks, a 21st-century liftoff to worldwide acclaim at center stage with INXS and an iTunes featured release with his band, The Dead Daisies, whose debut single featured the legendary Slash on guitar.
