As Washington-based folk artist SHANNON JAE RIDOUT prepares to release her new Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart LP via Anti-Corp Music in June, the albumâs magnetic title track has just been unveiled to the public.
After more than a decade away from performing and recording, SHANNON JAE RIDOUT triumphantly returns with Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart, a collection of songs written by while traveling the United States over a decade ago. With raw, at times chilling vocals, she explores themes of love, loss, longing, grief, addiction, and mental health struggles. With visceral imagery, hard hitting honesty and poetic lyrics, she has a way of making the listener feel as if sheâs right there with them, in musical mourning.
Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart delivers ten anthems of lush folk music with a tinge of dark country, while somber and heartbroken on the surface, the album shines with an inner beauty and hopeful longing for better days ahead. This collection of songs was written between 2012-2015 and finally recorded and mixed in January of 2021 by Justin Dye at Third Coast Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, after which the songs were mastered and sequenced by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering in Nashville, Tennessee. The artwork was handled by Bobby Ditrani. Fans of Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Karen Dalton, Guy Clark, Nina Simone, and Lucinda Williams, tune in.
RIDOUT writes with the new song, âIt was written in Port Townsend, Washington in the Summer of 2015. I was taking a break from busking out on the deck at Sirens Pub and just jotted it down. It was played very minimally until I finally edited some extra wordiness out and recorded it six years later.â
