DEVOLUTION once again team up with director Scott Hansen, (whom Nate first connected with when he appeared in Meshuggah’s “The Abysmal Eye” video) for their latest music video “Fear By Design” – newest single from their debut album Deceiver, Believer.

Vocalist Jon Howard says “The lyrical concept for ‘Fear By Design’ is totally straight up, no bullshit. I’m not dancing around a subject and leaving it up to personal interpretation. I’m saying this as loud as I possibly can… The power hungry evil rulers of this world have been lying and pushing a fear based agenda for a long, long time. Lies, lies, and more lies make up your whole fairytale life. Honestly way more than I can even say. The evil of this world goes beyond anything you can even fathom. But the point I’m really getting to is, there is no fear, it’s all by design. At least the made up bullshit they want you to fear… Fear is control. I could go on and on and on, but you’ll think I’m more insane by the second haha. So yea, that’s the lyrical concept. God help us all.”

Guitarist Nate Beberdick shares “We had an absolute blast shooting this video with Scott Hansen (Director) and Desiree Hansen, along with their killer crew at Digital Thunderdome Studios‘Fear By Design’, the opening track from our debut album Deceiver, Believer, is a straight to the point kind of song both musically and lyrically. It’s high energy with an even stronger message. Scott did a great job with the video concept and bringing the song to life visually. We love how it turned out!”

Drummer Eric Tysor addsGoing back down to Georgia to film the video for ‘Fear by Design’ from our album Deceiver, Believer was a fantastic experience. This song is one of my favorite tracks on the record, and bringing it to life on screen was done flawlessly by Scott and Desiree from Digital Thunderdome. The video captures the intensity and vision we had for this song perfectly. I’m incredibly proud of the track—and even more excited to finally share this video with everyone.”

About DEVOLUTION:

Devolution is a heavy powerhouse unit solidly rooted in Metal, driven by the dreams of an inseparable musical duo.

The roots of Devolution began when founder Nate Beberdick first found the urge to play guitar and start a band in his youth, a fateful move which led him to drummer Eric Tysor. The two Virginia-based buds started Deviation, traveling the East Coast in a run which found 15-year-old Nate sneaking into metal bars and clubs to perform, gaining a whirlwind of touring experiences over the course of three years, including shows with Burn The Priest-era Lamb of God.

Even as Deviation’s members eventually went their separate ways, there was no separating Nate and Eric, who not only bonded musically, but were actual family once Eric became Nate’s brother-in-law. The two continued writing music and creating demos, working with additional musicians remotely. Despite their passion for keeping their music going, now under the Devolution moniker, the right people and timing simply did not line up for the duo quite yet. Altogether, they had amassed over 20 years worth of songwriting, but as Eric already had a family, and Nate focused in on a government career and his newborn twins, they stepped away from the music scene for a few years. No matter what, the passion for the craft could not be extinguished, and during a reflective and inspiring time period, Nate came to realize how much he needed music in his life, and determined to come back to it with a newly ignited energy that was stronger than ever. Naturally, Eric was right back in the game, and the inseparable pair were reunited to take on the world as Devolution.

A highly fortunate mixup found the Richmond, VA-based Nate connected with a metal producer in Richmond, Australia by the name of Dr. Mike Trubetskov, who happened to work with Jon Howard of Threat Signal. Uncertain whether he would take on another project, Nate and Eric approached Jon and were pleased to find that he appreciated their talents and agreed to join Devolution. Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory was the next to hop right on board and join his Arkaea bandmate, Jon Howard.

Metallica devotee Nate financed Devolution’s independent debut full-length by selling his Metallica collection to fund the project. Though he’s been a lifelong Metallica collector, he views it as a worthwhile sacrifice of music fueling music, and still has the power to push forward with a love of his favorite band, even with a lighter collection on his hands.

Nate and Eric are at the center of all songwriting for their full-length, with Tue Madsen following Producer Dr. Mike on mixing and mastering from his own Antfarm Studios in Denmark. The result is Deceiver, Believer, built on a foundation of their very own label, Close Encounter Records, with logo artwork created by Tony Squindo, Metallica’s famous artist. The album features a guest vocal appearance by Cristian Machado (ex Ill Niño, Lions at the Gate), and synth work from Chris Dudley (Underoath), and Misstiq.

Devolution premiered the a lyric video for their debut albums’ title track “Deceiver, Believer” title track at Ghost Cult who declared the band a “Low-key Metal Supergroup.”

Revolver premiered Devolution’s “Victim of You” writing “This is the latest hard-rock venture from metal lifers Christian Olde Wolbers (), Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith), Eric Tysor and Nate Beberdick…they’ve brought out former Ill Niño/current Lions at the Gate frontman  to howl out some backups on their perseverance-themed new single, ‘Victim of You.’

In 2025, Devolution dropped the official music video for “Deceiver, Believer” (the title track of their debut album) filmed and directed by Scott B. Hansen (MeshuggahSevendust),

Devolution are now wrapping up production for their next music video with Scott Hansen for the track “Victim of You”, starring London Dalton (Tremors, Curse of Vandor), and featuring Cristian Machado (ex- Ill Nino, Lions At The Gate).

Devolution are currently writing their sophomore record with plans to begin pre-production in the fall of 2026.
