REVIEW – Canadian post metal band The Basement Paintings release their new full length album titled “Antipodes.”
Album opener Instinct starts off at a steady pace with a slow build before breaking out into a haunting guitar riffs at the forefront. Some of the sounds are reminiscent of 1980s The Cure. The next track Gnosis sets the tone with a continual drum beat and bass bringing in the guitar to add to the sound. Koan is the shortest song on the album but continues the build up to a slow paced rock gem. Ziggurnat demonstrates a strong resonance of varying sounds that bring the listener up and down. Title track Antipodes closes the album with a psychedelic rush with varying guitars, rocking drums, and an overall unique listening experience.
