Symphony of Change + Columbia College Opens Auditions for Chicago Youth with Citywide Music Program

About Symphony of Change:

Symphony Of Change was created to help push the importance of keeping, and growing, music programs in schools and to foster the education and creative expression of students across the country. Founded in 2016 by T. L. and Dani Jo Williams of RubyGld Smoke in collaboration with one beginner band program on the South Side of Chicago, The mission was to restore and enhance fine arts education, art appreciation, and community through programs, events, and summits. When schools are facing difficult budget challenges, it is no secret that art and music programs are typically the first, if not only, programs to be cut. This trend is especially prevalent in at-risk communities, where there is even more of a need for a safe and creative environment in which students can express themselves. Funds are often times allocated to help other school programs grow and advance, while art departments are left behind and remain stagnant, especially when it comes to technological and industrial advancements. With a team of award-winning artists, musicians, and educators, Symphony Of Change strives to build a nationwide movement that focuses on the importance of music programs and redefining classical training. Since its inception, the program has expanded and served over 5,000 students across the Chicagoland area through music and dance education. Their art events and performances have brought over 20,000 residents in underserved communities together. In 5 years, the program has raised $82,000 towards equitable arts for the Chicagoland students.
