With a fresh lineup and a new musical direction, ATRIA’s new EP “Ground Zero” gets very personal to exorcise the darkness of the mind, the frustrations of life, and battling your inner demons. Lead lyrically by vocalist Tom Emmans, the EP is his personal outlet to express his observations of the world. He explains further:
“I find myself in a world that I barely believe in, I try to be hopeful when I can but at the end of the day, weâre all just a little broken. I am expressing the broken side so I can be healthy when I walk off stage. It’s therapeutic, cathartic, but itâs really hard. It comes from a real place and itâs not always fun. Musically, for this record, itâs definitely gotten more aggressive, we always wanted to blend a lot of melodies and an anthemic chorusâ with brutality. I feel like the fans will agree that on this new one, weâve gotten much better at doing that.”
Teaming up once again with producer Jon Howard (Threat Signal), and a new lineup that features Jerad Sterling (Tortured Saint) on drums, Brody King on lead guitar, and bassist Joe Mullen to join founding members vocalist Tom Emmans (Odium, Deathpoint, Choices, Scaithe) and guitarist Tim Ross, “Ground Zero” is an anthemic five track jolt of crushing infectious metalcore.
From its award-winning single “Antiheroes” (“Best Metal”- 2023 Forest City London, ON Music Awards) that captivates with its riffs and simply impossible-to-forget chorus, it sinks in and does not let go as you flow from each track to the next and let the music guide to the messages the band is expressing. “Antiheroes” is about losing faith in government and media, “Dysmorphia” is about body dysmorphia and the way the media will sell you a dream that will never come true, to “Just a Number”, a song about knowing how hard you work every day and feeling youâre nothing more than a cog in a machine and itâs all pointless, to EP closer “The Brightest Lights’, a lullaby to an unborn dead child.
Recommended for fans of Avatar, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Soilwork, and Killswitch Engage, ATRIA‘s second EP “Ground Zero” is due out on August 18, 2023, and before it officially drops, the band has teamed up with MetalInsider for its full stream premiere HERE.

âForest City London, ON Music Awards – Best Metal Band – 2023
“Atria are from Ontario, Canada, and ‘New World Nightmare’ is their debut EP and what a little gem it is… Atria were a very nice surprise this month and are now band I will be looking out for in the future, because a full album of material this good will be very special. 9/10 – Power Play Magazine UK
“As this is the bands first outing, it is a strong start. I can see them being part of a regular playlist of mine as they are the exact kind of band I listen to. Metalcore is a very selective genre when it comes to what is involved, with bands drifting away from it every day. Atria have found the spot they want and are already planting their feet into the ground of the Canadian metalcore scene. I can see these guys playing a huge festival in the near future.” – Canadian Beats
“Citing Tool, Slipknot and Lamb of God as primary influencers, Canadian rookies Atria get the blood rushing on their inaugural EP. Despite inhabiting that familiar sonic sphere, itâs how they mystically stitch melodic passages with headbanging sequences that elevate them above the chaff. Scrumptious sonic trimmings are merely icing on the industrial cake. Yet at only four songs this searing thunderbolt of heavy metal domination serves mostly as a down payment on future excellence. Mosh on.” – Music Connection
“this is definitely a band to keep an eye out for when they release a full-length.” – Metal Temple
“A Canadian act willing to fuse together elements of melodic death and modern metal to pummel your senses, Atria unleash a fierce and engaging debut four-song EP with New World Nightmare.” – Dead Rhetoric
“The fact is that Atria, apart from all influences and using all influences, delivers a nice calling card with New World NIghtmare that we can do with for the time being. However, it is a business card that is neatly stored until further notice. I’m sold.” – Rock Portaal
