Following ten years of silence, American folk artist SHANNON JAE RIDOUT returns with a collection of songs with Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart, the LP set for release June 12th through her allies at Anti-Corp Music.
Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart is a collection of songs written by SHANNON JAE RIDOUT while traveling the United States over a decade ago, which now finally see the light of day. These songs are a window into, and a reflection of, RIDOUTâs life experiences during those years. With raw, at times chilling vocals, she explores themes of love, loss, longing, grief, addiction, and mental health struggles. With visceral imagery, hard hitting honesty and poetic lyrics, she has a way of making the listener feel as if sheâs right there with them, in musical mourning.
Having slipped away from performing and recording for more than a decade, SHANNON JAE RIDOUT returns in 2026 with the melancholic glory of the Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart LP. Ten anthems of lush folk music with a tinge of dark country borne of RIDOUTâs life experiences, while somber and heartbroken on the surface, shine with an inner beauty and hopeful longing for better days ahead. This collection of songs was written between 2012-2015 and finally recorded and mixed in January of 2021 by Justin Dye at Third Coast Studios in New Orleans, Louisiana, after which the songs were mastered and sequenced by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering in Nashville, Tennessee.
The artwork for Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart was done by Bobby Ditrani. RIDOUT had to say farewell to her steadfast and beloved canine companion, Wesson, in June of 2025 shortly after his 14th birthday. She, along with anyone who knows her well, knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that she would not be alive today if not for Wessonâs love and loyalty.
She wrote, upon completion of the album, âI had to say goodbye to my steadfast companion Wesson â A.K.A. The General… He was always going to be on the cover of this album; we didnât get around to that photograph though⦠I owe him my life a hundred thousand times over and thank him, with all of my strength and tenderness, for teaching me the will to live, to find the joys of the moment and to love loyally, without reservation or judgment. The boots ought to be pretty straightforward to understand. They are retired boots. I wore them for a season. I do not wear them anymore.â
The lead single from SHANNON JAE RIDOUTâs Two Busted Boots And A Broken Heart, âThe Day Iâve Had Enough,â is now playing HERE.

SHANNON JAE RIDOUT was raised in rural western Washington state. The White River Valley, silence, coyotes, cows, owls, solid gold oldies of the 1950s and â60s and Neil Young were the sounds of her childhood that influenced and shaped her love and curiosity of music, the natural world and the human experience. She has been making up stories since she was able to speak, writing since her teens and continues to do such things⦠but maybe with a hint of truth and life experiences these days.
RIDOUT was a classically trained clarinetist from age nine through nineteen, with her sights on the symphony. She dropped out after a semester of college and soon after, fell in love with the vibrance of Pike Place Market, street performance and its rich history and world of possibilities as a creative avenue. At the age of twenty-one, she bought a fifty-dollar Johnson acoustic guitar from a pawn shop. She was shown one finger picking pattern and a few chords, and started learning old European murder ballads, weaving her poetry into songs and finding her own unique voice of expression that you hear today. She hitchhiked, tramped, traveled, walked, and toured across the country for over a decade, busking by day, playing any stages she could find by night. She met her late husband, Nicholas Ridout, in February 2010, and by that May, they were hitchhiking and traveling together. She recorded her first solo album, Unwritten Scripts, at Gadgetbox Studios in Santa Cruz, California in June of 2010. In January of 2011 the two were married and loosely formed their band as a duo, SourMash Melodies and recorded their album, Bottle And Chain, an extremely lo-fi recording with one mic, a thrift store cassette player, converted from tape to digital.
In April of 2011 they met their future bandmates on the streets of Nashville, Tennessee â Benjamin Tod Flippo and Ashley Mae Flippo of Lost Dog Street Band. The two couples formed Spitshine Street Band in the Fall of 2011 and recorded their full-length album, A Bottle, A Gun & A Troubled Mind, in the Summer of 2012, recorded and mixed by Shibby, mastered by Dan Emery. This album showcases what can happen when three singer-songwriters join forces with harmonies and some well flourished fiddle playing. However, Spitshine Street Band came to an abrupt ending in the spring of 2013, with Nicholas Ridoutâs tragic passing.
The Teardrop Trio was formed out of the ashes of Spitshine Street Band in the Fall of 2013. Tod, Mae, and Ridout banded together and recorded their eponymous EP, and RIDOUT recorded her second full-length solo album, Strung Up Sorrow, both recorded and mixed by their dear friend, Justin Dye in Ashland, Oregon.
She currently resides in Washington state and has taken some time off from touring to focus on her mental health as well as some bigger writing projects. She is the fourth generation in her family to have bipolar disorder and is an advocate for speaking openly and candidly regarding mental health awareness. Her music is rooted and inspired by people, observations, life experiences, deep thoughts and feelings, the need for creative outlets and musical coping mechanisms.
