ââ¦gives off âif Tool played groove metalâ vibes.â â Decibel Magazine
Decibel Magazine is currently hosting an exclusive stream of Through Darkness Towards Enlightenment, the debut album from Polish metal collective SHADOHM â uniting current and former members of Vader, Decapitated, Hate, Antigama, Batushka, and more â ahead of the recordâs release this Friday through Selfmadegod Records.
SHADOHM unites several Polish metal scene veterans, founding drummer PaweÅ Jaroszewicz, vocalist Adrian Meissner, guitarist/vocalist RafaÅ Åyszczarz, guitarist Jakub Åliwowski, and bassist BÅażej Kasprzak. Collectively they deliver the pure, unadulterated darkness of black metal, energy of groove metal, and heavy melodies of doom metal through absurdly low-tuned notes. Their debut, Through Darkness Towards Enlightenment, is a modern combination of styles, citing acts like Architects, Lorna Shore, Meshuggah, Gojira, and Katatonia, shocking to the listener from start to finish with five tracks of melodic trance with amazing vocals that will take you to another dimension of modern metal, created by a conglomerate of experienced professionals.
The drums were recorded at Santa Studio (Behemoth, Obscure Sphinx) by MikoÅaj Kiciak, Filip HaÅucha, and Sebastian Has, the guitars and bass were recorded at Heinrich House Studio by Filip HaÅucha, the vocals were recorded at Santa Studio by Sebastian Has, and the tracks were mixed and mastered by Has at Santa Studio. The cover art was created by vocalist Adrian Meissner and Michal âXaayâ Loranc (God Dethroned, Kamelot, Nile), and the photography was handled by Aleksandra “Kosa” Majak.
Jaroszewicz comments on the album, âWhen I first attempted composing anything I didnât really have a clear picture of what it would become, and if anything at all. To see where we are now – just a few days before the premiere and with a solid lineup makes me proud but also focused even more than before to push it forward. This album is a completely new path for me and Iâm really curious where this will lead. I hope youâll enjoy this piece of music as much as we did creating it.â
ââ¦SHADOHM gravitate toward a groovierâalmost djentâsound,â Decibel writes with the advance album stream, continuing, âThe album is mostly focused on grooves and chugs, with Meshuggah as an obvious major influence… SHADOHM are at their best on closing track âTowards Enlightenment,â which gives off âif Tool played groove metalâ vibes.â
