Re-Live Metal Fest Insanity With âLAFHâ- Concrete Funeralâs Tribute To Loud As Hell Festival
L-R – Devin Schum – Guitars/ Vocals | Jesse Lindbeck – Guitars | Connor Erhart – Drums
Concrete Funeral has been a pillar in the local underground metal scene in Western Canada for several years, taking their flavor of death metal and infusing it with a comedic and over-the-top presentation. They are just as well known as the summer metal festival/family reunion Loud as Hell, which celebrates its 10th iteration this year. Having played the festival three times and attended in other years, it is only fitting that they pay homage to this event in their new single âLAFH (Loud As Fu*king Hell)â, which is out shortly. They share their enthusiasm for the new release:
â’LAFH’ was written in tribute to a festival in Drumheller Alberta. Loud As Hell was very formative to this band, as well as many others in western Canada Iâm sure, in that it became an instant benchmark of recognition. We had to get on that bill before weâd even played our first show which certainly resulted in a push to have our music and content be as high energy and high quality as we were capable of to avoid being overlooked. This reason along with lyrical content that seemed perfect to set to the hectic musical arrangement, Loud As Hell seemed the obvious subject matter for this song.â
This single, a succinct punch in the throat of a metal banger, is the tip of the iceberg of the next full offering which is still in the works. According to the band, the groove is still a very important piece of the puzzle for them, and on this next release, they are using it in heavier ways. Their path forward includes stepping up their game and injecting more intensity and leaning a little more into death groove territory than before.
True performers, Concrete Funeralâs live shows are largely hinged on humour and crowd interaction; theyâve personally always enjoyed watching bands that are having fun and make sure to create that feeling for their crowd as well by keeping the aggression high.
Hectic and mean, Concrete Funeral gets straight to the point and goes for the throat. They bring the festival directly to your ears through âLAFHâ. They are recommended listening for fans of Exodus, Exhumed, and Deicide.

About:Â Concrete Funeral is a no-holds-barred contingent of death/thrash from Calgary, Alberta, Canada that has done much to project themselves to the forefront of their local music scene since 2015. Known for packing venues and festivals while bringing a heavy and powerful presence to the stage, Concrete Funeral has had the privilege to play with bands such as Archspire, Battlecross, Disciples of Power, Kataklysm, and Toxic Holocaust.
â
Incorporating a vast variety of influences with some of the more prominent being Warbringer, Zakk Wylde, and Onslaught, and Hypocrisy, Concrete Funeral produces a sound in the veins Death, Exodus and Lamb of God. Citing references like Hobo With A Shotgun; the band embraces over the top comedic horror and frequently embellishes their metal with those themes.
â
Concrete Funeral is comprised of four talented musicians from Alberta that collectively have decades of experience behind them. In May 2019, they released their debut album âUltimum Judiciumâ, which was then followed in 2021 with the EP “Covered In Concrete”.
â
Now in 2022, in tribute to Western Canada’s decibel-breaking metal festival Loud As Hell, which the band holds high regard for in helping them boost their metal career, Concrete Funeral will unleash their new single LAFH on May 11th.

“Thereâs plenty of unbridled rage and high-octane energy in this mad romp (âCarnival of Contradictionsâ) , with riffing that alternately pulsates, swirls, scissors, and slashes, tempos that turn on a dime, explosive drum work that will give your skull a solid battering, and vocals that veer from a guttural growl to a maniac shriek in the blink of an eye. Itâs a riotous assault, but holds a few eye-opening surprises, including a hell of a guitar solo when the rampage briefly abates. But mainly, this is the kind of track thatâs calculated to flood your body with adrenaline and get your blood rushing through the veins, and it reaches a crescendo of ferocious lunacy at the end. ” – No Clean Singing
“For those who enjoy Lamb of God, Carcass, Exodus, and Death, Concrete Funeral is for you.” – Metal Insider
“The Canadian death/thrash brigade Concrete Funeral have a good grasp of the harsh side of things on their debut album Ultimum Judicium. Some very vicious sounding vocals atop the music matches it quite well. Abrasive riffing fits well within either the death or thrash genres. The music works well in all its caustic glory as the songs glide by with memorable efficiency and a rapid pace, but are allowed to have their impact implanted quite nicely… Fans of bands like early Kreator and Slayer will get a kick out of Concrete Funeralâs work. There is a nastiness that makes it more than just a typical thrash release.” – Heavy Music Headquarters
“an incredible find and an amazing addition to any library or playlist for anyone with tendencies towards Speed, Thrash, or Death Metal.” – Metal Temple
“Think of a mixing pot of SLAYER, EXODUS, LAMB OF GOD and even some CANNIBAL CORPSE nastiness and youâve pretty much got Concrete Funeralâs modus operandi… CONCRETE FUNERAL plays honest, vicious heavy metal with some bite…” – Wormwood Chronicles
“”Concrete Funeral , letâs face it, you canât pass by a chance to listen to a band with a name like that, it just sounds⦠so Metal!! So if you like your Metal with that added âThrash-tasticâ edge you wonât be too disappointed with their debut release âUltimum Judiciumâ , itâs thrashy to the core but with a pinch of Death Metal, think Exodus, Death, Lamb of God and youâll be in the right ballpark.” – The Metal Wanderlust
