REVIEW – HONEYBEE is a three-piece live rock & roll band with cosmic skill that exceeds their years. HONEYBEE, formed in 2019 by Revel Ian (drums, age 11), Liam Williams (guitar/vocals, age 16), and Theo O’Gara (bass/vocals, age 15) in the Santa Monica Mountains of Southern California, has already begun destroying the hearts and minds of audiences with their explosive blend of hard rock, heavy metal, psych, prog, and alt-folk.

Liam Williams, who was wanting to create a band of his own, discovered the natural-born abilities of youthful drummer Revel Young Ian after hearing Bonham-like rhythms emanating from his sister’s basement band session. He instantly requested if he could join him on lead guitar in an impromptu jam. Immediately, the two youngsters’ sounds and vibes meshed. Knowing that they wanted to continue producing music together, they promptly teamed up with Liam’s classmate and bassist Theo O’Gara to create the trio.

Due to the fact that all three members of HONEYBEE are true multi-instrumentalists born into musical families with slightly different styles, Liam, Revel, and Theo recognize collectively their individual musical flavors and use them to augment their own music’s deep foundation across the gamut of rock and roll, from classic rock to nu metal and beyond.

HONEYBEE swiftly compiled an album of brand-new songs that would make bands like Queens of the Stone Age hesitant to follow in their footsteps, using an explosion of fresh song concepts. They spent four days at Studio 606 in Northridge, California, wired into the iconic Sound City Neve console. There, they let the fresh waves of their organic inspiration flow and congeal via fabled and time-worn pathways touched by the vibrations of some of music’s greatest musicians.

HONEYBEE open their self-titled debut with the thumping track “Get Out Of My Head.” The song has blazing guitar solos, slamming percussion, thumping bass, and outstanding vocals. The next song, “Locked Up,” gradually rises and draws you in as it rocks. The third tune, “Better Days,” will have listeners singing and swaying to their own ideas. The next song, “Talk Box,” evokes acid rock with its trippy guitars, excellent rhythm, and passionate vocals. Slowly building to a rocking beat, the pensive “I’m Alive” will get listeners immersed in their own imagination. The next song, “Interlude,” has searing shredding leads and is an all-out rock tune. The ensuing track, “Miss Misfortunate,” is a captivating melody that will have the listener rocking. The next song, “Wake,” is a jazzy blues melody that will completely envelop the listener’s senses. The following tune, “Spicy Meatball,” focuses on thumping bass and hammering drums to create a punk rock atmosphere. The closing track “Hearts Loosing Its Mind” is a piece that will transport listeners on an eerie, mystical musical trip.
