REVIEW – I am not sure what planet CROWJANE has come from, but this cd is a sign that she is here to take ours over. Where I feel most artists use music to just rhyme words with catchy beats to sell units. This woman throws so much experimentation at us that you develop a connection almost immediately. Lyrics like, “We cannot get away from how this is,” sum up how I feel about abstract art in this form. Once it gets in your being, you cannot wipe it away like a top 40 single. It sticks with you. CROWJANE creates an art in her sound that is both friendly and haunting. It seems like she is naked of her past bands and created a cd that reflects where she is at right now as both an artist and as a human being. Naked is a good term. This cd is stripped of commercialism and randomness to create an intimacy that feels almost taboo.
This cd can be seen as the bridge between Puce Mary and Lingua Ignota. There are moments when her words are delicate like “Terminal Secrets” and “Killer of Peace”. Very thought provoking and catchy. Then you have songs like “Delusion” that are not so delicate but feel emotionally intense. It is like she is searching inside herself for acceptance when this world she has created has made her unsure and driving her mad. This cd can be seen as a dark abyss of art that is so surreal and unknown but yet familiar. If that makes sense. This cd can be seen as ten songs or as I feel you can see it as, ten experiments. Ten glimpses into a person that even after listening to this cd I do not know the first thing about. She is still a mystery but yet her music could cause quite the talk on the underground and hopefully college radio picks up on this. In a year where we have had so much bad shit going on, it is great for an artist to come out of left field and hit me hard. This cd will be thought about long after my final word on this review. This cd should not be ignored. What a powerful debut album.
