REVIEW – BLAXEM returns with a sonic gut-punch in ‘Ethereal’, due out this Friday, May 16th via Eclipse Records. This five-track EP is an explosive blend of modern metal, groove-laden intensity, and a refreshing dose of lyrical sincerity that breathes new life into heavy music. For a band rising from South America, their presence already feels global.
Opening with “Grey Summit,” the band wastes no time setting the tone—furious drums, tight grooves, and vocals that cut through like a blade. The energy is relentless, but never chaotic—this is controlled fury, refined through strong songwriting and technical mastery. It’s an immediate standout, showcasing what BLAXEM does best: precision without losing soul.
Next comes “Miscellaneous,” which practically dares you not to headbang. Packed with mosh-worthy riffage and a pummeling rhythm section, the track feels like a call to arms, celebrating identity in chaos. The title track “Ethereal” shifts into more atmospheric territory without compromising heaviness. Laced with layered textures and emotive weight, it adds an unexpected vulnerability—this one will linger with you long after it ends.
“Radiant Abyss” takes a darker, death-infused dive, blending melodic dissonance with sharp breakdowns. It’s a volatile track that feels cinematic and apocalyptic all at once. Closing with “Images of Tomorrow,” BLAXEM deliver a hypnotic slow-burn that builds in intensity, as haunting leads echo through a dreamlike haze. It’s progressive, introspective, and the perfect curtain call to a record that has something to say.
At just five tracks, ‘Ethereal’ leaves you wanting more—but that’s part of its charm. BLAXEM doesn’t waste a second, choosing instead to deliver a tightly wound EP that’s honest, passionate, and sonically devastating. This is modern metal retooled with purpose, unflinching in its execution and raw in its delivery.
