REVIEW – For any fan of covers, a new album from Big Curve Music titled, The Big Cover Up, showcases various talents of well loved classic rock and new wave. The albums features ten covers of classic synth, rock, and new wave renditions.

The opening track, “Eyes Without a Face” brings a new rock infused element by the band 51 Peg. The classic Bill Idol song is always a welcome addition for any music fan. Named after the extrasolar planet 51 Pegasi, 51 Big are a dark synth rock band, influenced by the likes of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and various other industrial bands.

“Down in a Hole” starts off at a slower pace featuring layered synths and a cosmic vibe performed by Steep Steps. Originally performed by Alice in Chains, Steep Steps showcases a carefree vibe. Steep Steps feature haunting female vocals, a multitude of analog synths, guitar tones, and creative production.

“New Dawn Fades” demonstrates masterful rhythm guiatars with haunting vocals from Brian Wolff of The Neuro Farm. Any fan of Joy Division will appreciate the dark faithful interpretation of this song. The Neuro Farm is a darkwave gothic band from Washington, DC. The Neuro Farm draws on influences such as Joy Division, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sigur Ros, Chelsea Wolfe, Portishead, and Rammstein.  

“Fortunate Son” is a hard metal based cover that takes a different spin on the classic by Creedence Clearwater Revival. The band, Idiot Code, showcases their passion for industrial metal when performing their verision of this song. The cover hails to the likes of the hard rock industral band, KMFDM.

AC/DC’s cheeky classic “Big Balls” finds a new take from the band, Dingleberry Dynasty. Showcasing their humor, wit, and love for the song is on full display throughout the song.

The band, Hollowboy, offer their energetic version on the class new wave song, “The Walk.” The Cure’s classic song finds a fast paced, synth infused take that leaves the listener coming back for more from Hollowboy.
