Expanding on MICHAEL FRANTI‘s socially and environmentally conscious lifestyle, the singer, songwriter and guitarist has partnered with Zappos For Good, the charity team of Zappos.com. The upcoming MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD headlining concert on Thursday, July 13 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO–a stop on their “Love Out Loud” World Tour–with other artists Trevor Hall and HIRIE, will include Zappos for Good facilitating the collection of shoes on behalf of non-profit, Soles4Souls, before the concert. Soles4Souls distributes shoes for living in poverty around the world.
In 2000 FRANTI decided–initially for three days–not to wear any shoes after going to countries where children did not have the luxury of shoes. Since then, he has chosen to go barefoot except for occasionally wearing flip-flops as required to board an airplane or to be served in a restaurant. For 16 years FRANTI has gone barefoot, and in partnership with Zappos For Good attendees are encouraged to bring second hand shoes to the concert for donation in an act of solidarity for those less fortunate.
The announcement builds onto the special day at Red Rocks which begins with “LOVE OUT LOUD YOGA,” led by dynamic yoga teacher, Gina Caputo. It’s a special yoga and live acoustic music jam-prior to MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD’s concert that evening-benefiting “Do It For The Love.” Co-founded by Franti and his wife Sara, the organization is a wish-granting non-profit that brings people living with life-threatening illnesses, children with severe challenges, and wounded veterans to live concerts. Tickets for the special event billed as an invitation to Wear Your Heart On Your Sleeve are on sale now and doors for “LOVE OUT LOUD YOGA” will open at 4:00pm MDT with a sharp start time of 4:30pm MDT for an hour of guided yoga and music.
“All of us who have felt the healing power of music know how it lifts our spirits when we are facing life’s hurdles,” says FRANTI. “Now more than ever we need to come together in celebration of this fact. ‘Love Out Loud Yoga’ will be a fun and spirited celebration of the power of community coming together to make a difference in the lives of others during times when they need music the most.”
Do It For The Love‘s mission is to bring people with advanced stages of life-threatening illness, children, and adults with special needs and wounded veterans to see any live concert by any artist in North America. Throughout history, the expression “wear your heart on your sleeve” has been a way for people to dedicate certain actions to the ones they love, as well as a way to describe people who truthfully display their emotions. We invite all participants to attach a heart to their sleeve or wear heart-inspired clothing, body art, make-up, or costumes in their own unique expression of love for someone in their lives who needs some extra support and in solidarity with all of our “Do It For The Love” families.
ABOUT MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD:
Formed in 1994, Spearhead was born as the latest in a series of musical projects that also included Franti‘s industrial/hardcore act the Beatnigs and his groundbreaking hip-hop duo Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. The band released their debut album in September 1994, and over the next two decades gained a massive following across the globe, bolstered by the smash success of “Say Hey (I Love You”) (a 2009 single that hit #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and appeared on Spearhead’s sixth studio album All Rebel Rockers). In 2016 Michael Franti & Spearhead released their ninth studio album, SOULROCKER, via Fantasy/Concord records. Through the years, Franti has also dedicated himself to activism and filmmaking, with his 2005 documentary I Know I’m Not Alone chronicling his journey to Iraq, Palestine, and Israel and offering a seldom-seen look at war’s toll on everyday people.
