LOVE PAST BLUE–the Dallas, TX-based female-fronted indie pop rock group–are gaining attention with debut single, “No Means No,” which calls out sexual misconduct. The band’s 16-year-old lead vocalist and lyricist Clio Cadence penned the forthright song lastMarch based off personal harassment experiences and spoke recently with The Fort Worth Star-Telegram about it (read here).
This month the band has performances set in Los Angeles at AMPLYFi on January 14, Whisky a-Go-GO on January 19 and Genghis Cohen on January 20, in addition to other Southern California shows. LOVE PAST BLUE have also confirmed a home town performance in Dallas, TX on the final installment of the Warped Tour on July 6. Event details and tour schedule is available here. See all tour dates below.
Released December 8, “No Means No” is the lead single from LOVE PAST BLUE‘s forthcoming sophomore album produced by the esteemed Sylvia Massy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Powerman 5000) and coming in the spring (details TBA). Click here to listen to the track aiming to further raise awareness in solidarity with other victims of sexual harassment, misconduct and assault during an important time for women in our culture. The song opens with these lyrics (read full lyrics here):
“Boys we need to get something right
You can’t do anything you want
You can’t do anything you like
Boys we need to get something right
You can’t do anything you want
Because you turn off the light”
Speaking with The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Clio says:”Flirting is awesome if two people are into it. But there’s a difference between flirting and having someone objectify you…I went to my counselor and told her about it but nothing came out of it, so I wrote the song. The same things have happened to a few of my friends. It’s hard for girls to build up the courage to speak out about it and sometimes people don’t believe you or they think you are asking for it with the things you wear.”
LOVE PAST BLUE –made up of vocalist Clio Cadence (16), guitarist Jack Hickman (14), bassist Joe Galate (18) and drummer Logan Ellis Sheppard (16)–boasts a sound that is bold and sassy, straddling the line between pop and rock, and infused with a subtle blend of jazz and funk; drawing inspiration from early No Doubt, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Evanescence. Their sophomore album is currently being produced by Sylvia Massy, who has a history of over 25 gold and platinum records, including several Grammy-nominated albums. The first single off that album, “V.I.P.,” was released everywhere on October 6th. “Working with Sylvia on our new music is literally a dream come true,” said Cadence. “She really believes in us and our music, and she has definitely taken the recordings to the next level.”
In June 2016, LOVE PAST BLUE brought their show to Houston for SpringBoard South, and by January 2017, they were headed to San Diego, California for SpringBoard West. Both music festivals were designed to bring emerging artists and music industry professionals together for mutual benefit. For LOVE PAST BLUE, this led to their partnership with legendary management consultant VickyHamilton, who is perhaps best known for launching the careers of multi-platinum bands Guns ‘N Roses and Poison, among others.
