GOTHO: MetalSucks Streams Sci-Fi Themed Gothron Versus Fartark LP From Italian Avant/Prog Metal Duo; Album To Be Released Tomorrow On Supernatural Cat Records

“Why pigeonhole yourself into one particular sound when you can say ‘fuck it’ and do whatever you damn well please?” – MetalSucks

MetalSucks is hosting an exclusive stream of Gothron Versus Fartark, the second album from Italian progressive/cinematic metal duo GOTHO. The album drops tomorrow on Supernatural Cat Records, the exploratory label operated by members of Ufomammut and the Malleus Rock Art Collective.

Gothron Versus Fartark was recorded by Danilo Battocchio at El Fish Studio, mixed by Danilo Battocchio at Deepest Sea Studio (Hierophant, Tons, Tutti), mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Obituary, Nails, The Armed), and completed with cover art by the Malleus Rock Art Lab. Fans of psychedelic and cinematic artists Zombi, Goblin, Fabio Frizzi, Genghis Tron, John Carpenter, Anima Morte, Vangelis, and Zu should not miss GOTHO.

The band reveals, “Sometimes dreams come true, as it was for us when we signed with Supernatural Cat, and saw the wonderful unreal cover by Malleus come to this world. We wrote Gothron Versus Fartark for the same reason we formed GOTHO, to make music with total freedom to write, without having to be in any sort of parameter. This philosophy came out on the album, in which you can find metal, jazz, disco, punk, psych, all within the same track, not exactly a product for all ears. As I said before, sometimes dreams do come true.”

MetalSucks writes, “Sometimes a band or an album comes across my desk that really subverts my expectations. Maybe the album art suggests one thing but the music rope-a-dopes me with something else entirely… when I received word of an Italian progressive/cinematic instrumental duo named GOTHO, I gotta admit — I had no idea what to expect. The cover art for their forth coming album Gothron Versus Fartark looks almost exactly like something Monster Magnet would put out, but what lies beneath the imagery is something else entirely… the band prides itself on bucking the often-confining concept of musical genres. Why pigeonhole yourself into one particular sound when you can say ‘fuck it’ and do whatever you damn well please?”

GOTHO was formed in the Summer of 2020 by Fabio Cuomo (Elder, Eremite, Liquido Di Morte) on synthesizers and electric piano and Andrea Peracchia (Tons, Dogs For Breakfast, Slaiver) on drums. The band became instantly recognizable for their ability to explore an incredibly wide range of musical genres, defying any attempt at categorization.

Gothron Versus Fartark further pushes the boundaries of GOTHO’s creativity, set in a sci-fi narrative about an epic battle between two robotic entities, Gothron and Fartark, fighting for the survival of their respective worlds and control of the Logtark world. Through a series of trials and challenges, Gothron, the saga’s protagonist, ultimately defeats Fartark, preventing the destruction of the universe.

Musically, the album stands out for its use of synthesizers, electric piano, trumpet, drums, and featuring prominent use of the vocoder, masterfully woven together to create an immersive, cinematic soundscape. Spanning a wide range of genres, including progressive rock, metal, jazz, disco, psychedelia, post-rock, and classical music, making it impossible to categorize within a single genre, Gothron Versus Fartark is a unique musical experience that defies conventions and pushes the boundaries of sonic storytelling.

“Driven by bright, twisting synths and an extremely lively drum performance, GOTHO demonstrate their musical tightness and creativity.” – Decibel Magazine

“Progressive rock, metal, jazz, disco music, psychedelia, post rock, classical… it is impossible to identify this album with a single genre… Their songwriting is peculiar, but their musicianship is excellent.” – Metal Temple
