NASHVILLE, TN (September 10, 2021) — Florida-based country artist Derek Lersch has released the sophomore single, “Over,” from his forthcoming 100 Proof EP, a six-song collection that’s out Friday, November 19. The new song opens with the woeful lyrics, “just sitting here it’s late at night, I’m just wishing I can make this right…but it’s over.” Appropriately setting the tone for a classic heartache song, “Over” articulates how one wishes the relationship could have transpired differently.
“Over” is a heartbreak song that I wrote with two of my buddies, Nathanael Hyer and Justin Lee Partin, at two completely different times,” Lersch explains. “It was by far the most interesting co-write I’ve ever had, but I wouldn’t change a thing.”
V13 recently praised Lersch’s new single, saying: “rather than drowning in his own sorrow, he proactively applied these feelings towards his art and craft, channeling those mixed emotions, and concocting one of his most appealing and relatable songs yet.”
Having opened for artists such as Rodney Atkins, Lersch attributes many of his stage antics and sound to the various musical influences he grew up on. The Scituate, Massachusetts-born artist was mesmerized by the greats, from legends like Tom Petty and The Eagles to Michael Jackson and Garth Brooks. “I grew up on all kinds of music,” says Lersch. “From classic rock, pop, country, everything! You’ve got to remember, I’m a 90s kid too, so even the Backstreet Boys and Shania Twain have influences in my music.”
