ââ¦the vocals are monstrously cruel and fanatical, and the tremoloâd whir of the riffage sounds like the maniacal scything of body parts.â â No Clean Singing
No Clean Singing is currently the only place to hear âHands Of Death,â the new track from Portland, Oregon death metal crew COFFIN ROT. The song is the latest warning shot from the bandâs impending second album, Dreams Of The Disturbed, nearing September release on Maggot Stomp.
On Dreams Of The Disturbed, COFFIN ROT prepares to deliver an album that builds on the elements of death established in the band’s previous works but has diverged into something far darker, far more sinister, and much heavier. Pulling influences from the technical guitar prowess of Vile-era Cannibal Corpse as well as mixing elements of the more chaotic dissonant and blackened chord structures of Dead Congregation and aspects of Deathâs melodicism and guitar virtuoso, the band can continue to proudly showcase that while wearing their influences on their sleeves, it’s the ability to take these influences and craft songs that will plague your mind with visions of the perverse and deranged, leaving you hungry for more.
Dreams Of The Disturbed was recorded at The Underworld Studio with Charlie Koryn (Ascended Dead, Decrepisy), mixed and Mastered at Subterranean Watchtower Studios with Damien Herring (Horrendous), and completed with cover art by Wyrmwalk.
With the new single, âHands Of Death,â the band offers, âYou wanted fast? You got it. This song is about the Florida Everglades murder cult that serial killers Henry Lee Lucas and Otis Toole claimed to be members of upon their capture. Although never proven to be real, the claims of human sacrifice and ritualistic slaughter are haunting. Take a trip with us deep into the swamps and listen as the alligators feast on the corpses of discarded victims.â
No Clean Singing writes with their premiere of the song, âIn musically depicting these hideous imaginings, COFFIN ROT do bring on the slaughter and the swamp. But the musical killing sprees, though plainly deranged, arenât primitive and unimaginative. Instead, the fretwork is intricate in its rapidly darting and writhing forms of dementia, the bass-work is nimble and prominent, and the drumming is constantly variable. No doubt, the vocals are monstrously cruel and fanatical, and the tremoloâd whir of the riffage sounds like the maniacal scything of body parts. The soloing also sounds ecstatic, though we donât forget the perversions that bring the joy despite how exhilarating the solos are.â

Formed in 2017 by brothers Hayden and Derekâ vocals and drums, respectively â alongside guitarist Tre Wilz, COFFIN ROT quickly recorded and released their first demo, following it a year later with another, as well as a split with Chicago death dealers, Molder. In 2019, with the addition of bassist Brandon Martinez-Woodall, the band quickly set out to record their full-length debut, A Monument To The Dead, The album was co-released by Rotted Life Records (USA) and Blood Harvest (EU) and was met with critical acclaim in the underground. The album was an instant classic; a trend-free synthesis of various eternal strains of death metal, fusing Grave’s proud and powerful surge, Cianide’s sewer-drenched doom-death, the blackened passages of Immolationâs early works, and a host of other equally stout influences. However, it’s the way COFFIN ROT was able to rearrange these parameters into something horrific that made the album immediately memorable.
Moving into the age of the pandemic, COFFIN ROT began a new era under the Maggot Stomp banner, joining the ranks of Frozen Soul, Sanguisugabogg, Tribal Gaze, and others. Following the release of their first single on 7″ format â “Reduced To Visceral Sludgeâ b/w a cover of Sepulturaâs âTroops Of Doom” â the band began working on their second LP with the addition of fifth member and second guitarist Jonathan Quintana (Decrepisy, Thanamagus, Ascended Dead).
