CHROME WAVES Enters The Studio To Record Ominous Fourth Album; The Rain Will Cleanse LP Out Now

Maynard James Keenan, front man of A Perfect Circle, Puscifer and TOOL, will be joined by fourteen friends over the course of his forthcoming A Perfect Union of Contrary Things (Nov. 8, Backbeat Books) tour including Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil, A Perfect Circle’s Billy Howerdel and The Flaming Lips’ Steven Drozd.

While the dust still settles on their new album, The Rain Will Cleanse, CHROME WAVES is currently in the studio recording the new songs that will embody the outfit’s fourth full-length release.

Guitarist Jeff Wilson reveals, “Nearly five months since the release of The Rain Will Cleanse, this week James, Zion, and I met up in our studio to start work on the fourth album. Where Rain saw us going a lighter, more melodic route, this new album shows us going back to our roots with a darker feel than previous work. We’re excited for all to hear the ever-expanding palette that is CHROME WAVES.”

Watch for additional updates on the new CHROME WAVES record, as well as the members’ related projects Deeper Graves, Contrition, Amiensus, and more over the months ahead.

CHROME WAVES’ third LP, The Rain Will Cleanse, was released in September as a joint effort through Transcending Records and Disorder Recordings.

Further exploring the realms of shoegaze, alternative, and non-metal influences while retaining elements of their brooding post-black metal, The Rain Will Cleanse was recorded at Disorder Recordings by Jeff Wilson and at Postal Recording by Tyler Watkins who also handled mixing and mastering. The record was completed with cover artwork by Rebecca Dunski and photos by Luke Steffens and features guest vocals from Darja Vaarsi on several tracks.

The album’s gleaming, melancholic, and melodic approach attracted a wide array of new audiences and acclaim from the media, including Invisible Oranges who wrote, “CHROME WAVES play into the shoegaze and post-rock of blackgaze more so than they do the metal, but they explore the vaster soundscapes of those styles within relatively conventional song lengths. That means there’s plenty of layers and foggy vocals with a healthy measure of wanderlust.” Cvlt Nation exclaimed, “Excuse me as I float over our reality on the wings of CHROME WAVES’ record The Rain Will Cleanse. Imagine if ’90s grunge and shoegaze had a love child, the end result would slap like this offering.” Treble’s premiere noted, “…a stunning balance between the group’s trademark heaviness and atmospheric beauty, balancing a hazy shoegaze/post-rock approach with a thunderous power behind it that makes their climaxes come crashing down to earth with greater intensity. It’s a transition away from the band’s prior black metal sounds, easing into something that, for all its majesty, is much more graceful and melancholy.”

CHROME WAVES’ The Rain Will Cleanse is available now on CD, LP, cassette, and digital through Disorder Recordings HERE and through Transcending Records HERE.
