What a combo for a tour. Babymetal and Dethklok came through Dallas Texas and brought Jason Richardson along with them.
Jason Richardson, if you didn’t already know, is an absolute beast on the guitar. He has done guitar for so many bands, he is currently lead in All That Remains. He has a few solo albums out as well. Jason played a fantastic set to start off this wonderful, variety filled evening.
Next up was a band I had no clue how they did a live show. Dethklok, fictional melodic death metal band featured in the Adult Swim animated television series Metalocalypse, known for its satirical or parodic lyrical themes. The show started with a little intro making fun of the fans there to see a fake band. (all in good fun. They weren’t actually being mean/rude). During the show, the band was basically silouetted in front of a huge screen playing music video/scenes from the Metalocalypse show. It was a very entertaining show to witness.
Last but certainly not least was Babymetal. BABYMETAL performed to a sold-out crowd once again at the South Side Ballroom. Babymetal, the Japanese fusion band that blends elements of heavy metal with J-pop, is known for their electrifying performances and theatrical stage presence. The three permanent members: Su-metal, Moametal, and Momometal, were on point on this day. Starting the show in complete darkness. Then the huge screen in the back comes on with their logo. The girls walk out to silouette.
The energy in the room was incredible. The headbanging and crowd surfing was non-stop. You may not know what to really expect when you have 3 beautiful J-pop idols come out but it is just as heavy as the next death metal band. Babymetal effortlessly transitioned between their metal and J-pop influences, blending songs like “Gimme Chocolate” and “PA PA YA” with heavier tracks like “BxMxCx” and “Distortion.”
I fell the standout moment of the night was when Babymetal performed “METALI!,” their most recent single. The KAMI band performed some quick solos right before the girls took on the stage. Showcasing the amazing talent these 4 men have. I would highly recommend checking out a show if you can.
