A FLOCK NAMED MURDERÂ was born from a simple but powerful idea: to create music that is both potent and honest, unbound by expectations. Brothers Cam and Ryan Mueller first began writing and playing together in 2009, using their diverse influences to carve out a sound uniquely their own. Their goal was never to conform but to express the raw and visceral emotions that define the human experience â through the boundless spirit of creativity.
The band took on various incarnations over the years, initially with the moniker Sovereign, where they became a fixture in Torontoâs metal underground, sharing the stage with bands like Imperial Triumphant, Rosetta, and Falls Of Rauros. After recording their debut album, longtime friend and bassist Sean Shorting amicably departed in 2018, making way for the arrival of Mike Wandy on bass. With this final shift, the band rebranded as A FLOCK NAMED MURDER and released their first full-length, An Appointed Time, later that year.
This distinct vision has been well received both on record and on stage, where theyâve performed alongside Harakiri For The Sky, Mizmor, Oranssi Pazuzu, Hexis, and Miserere Luminis. With their upcoming sophomore LP, Incendiary Sanctum, A FLOCK NAMED MURDER pushes every element of their sound to its outermost limits. As diverse and sprawling as it is, the album stands as their most complete and uncompromising artistic statement to date â a bold exploration of extremity and emotion, crafted by a band unafraid to forge its own path.
âThe epic track finds the band⦠traveling an expansive, sludgy, doom-laden path complete with melodic, moody guitar work, raw-throated vocals, and a full-on black metal assault at its crescendo. Itâs practically a mini-album on its own.â â Decibel Magazine on âTo Drown In Obsidian Tidesâ

“â¦a rewarding, absorbing, and enjoyable album. Itâs vast and adventurous, with a substantive depth that demands repeat visits to its intriguing shores. However, itâs also dripping in the instant appeal that comes with powerful presence and intense emotion. A Flock Named Murder are adept at their art, producing an album that ensnares easily, but once caught, you wonât want to escape from their embrace.” â Wonderbox Metal
“…one of the most innovative, most important and landmark albums from the Extreme Metal scene in the years to come.” â Outlaws of The Sun
“a standout performance thatâs sure to go down as one of the finest works that 2025 has to offer when the year eventually comes to a close. Much was dared in the crafting of Incendiary Sanctum, and so much was achieved in glorious fashion.” â Headbanger Reviews
“The songs get longer and longer as the album goes on, setting up a challenging sonic gauntlet. The group handles this atmospheric black metal with a meticulous touch, which is important for an album densely packed with content.” â Heavy Music HQ
“There is a lightness to it thatâs hard to describe. The record is in no way short on rawness, energy, or pure black metal, but it remains elegant all the way through. The beginning feels like an invocation. The ending is a mournful farewell. Everything in between is, at the same time, fast and dynamic â and tender, like a young animal.” â Metal Eclipse Reviews
