Post punk/psych Brooklyn-based rock band, Lord Sonny the Unifier, debut their newest album, You Were Born to Save Your Life. The ten track album showcases the band’s passion of Americana and post punk. This album was written from the viewpoint of a type of time travelers who’s seeing the perspective of society in 2024.
The opening track “I’m Out” features a guitar driven frenzied sound with steady drums to set the pace for the new album. “I’m Out” dives into expecting the unexpected escaping what is that standard normal in society. “Wanna Bet Your Life” showcases a classic component with a psychedelic draw bringing the listener into a expansive criminal world. The album’s lead single, “Keep The Fierce,” extends to the fight or flight struggle everyone faces each day. “I Thin k We’ve Been Had” is a powerful nod with a steady bass analyzing how people are waking up to what takes place around them in modern society.
“Until You Go” starts off at a slower pace exploring the concept of seeking out beyond what’s familiar. “The Suicide Salesman” closes the album with pulsating drums, a steady bass line, and soaring guitars.
Lord Sonny the Unifier is lead by Greg Jiritano on vocals, guitar, and keyboards; Josh Bailey on drums and percussion; Gary Atturio on bass and keyboard; and Amy Gordon on backing vocals.
You Were Born To Save Your Life is a must listen for anyone looking for something new and inventive. The album features various genres of psych rock, Goth, and psychobilly.
