Portuguese multi-instrumentalist Melkor returns with Legacy of Shadows, the haunting new release from his atmospheric metal project SHADOWS LURKING UNDERNEATH TIME. Released today, the album marks the climactic conclusion to a deeply personal and emotionally charged two-album journey that began with 2024’s Four Shadows of Ruin.
As the final chapter in a sorrowful and cinematic concept, Legacy of Shadows plunges headfirst into themes of grief, trauma, and psychological descent. The story continues to follow Ana and her daughter, two tragic figures caught in the unrelenting grip of betrayal, love, and loss. Where Four Shadows of Ruin served as the unraveling of innocence, Legacy of Shadows fully embraces the darkness—charting Ana’s final descent into madness as memories fracture and emotional ghosts take hold.
True to Melkor’s vision, every layer of Legacy of Shadows has been meticulously crafted. The artist not only performs all instruments and vocals but also wrote the lyrics and created the artwork, ensuring the release remains deeply unified in tone and purpose. The result is an immersive sonic experience where bleak post-black metal textures merge with ambient passages and poetic lyricism to paint a chilling portrait of emotional decay.

The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Studios13 in January 2025, capturing the raw intimacy and grandiosity of Melkor’s vision. Adding an ethereal dimension to the record is Jorge Matos, whose guest appearance on clean vocals adds ghostly resonance and emotional weight to key moments within the album.
More than just music, Legacy of Shadows is a work of dark art—an uncompromising expression of sorrow that challenges the listener to confront their own shadows. It’s a fitting end to a saga that has captivated fans of atmospheric and emotionally-driven metal.
