Decibel Magazine is currently streaming NEPENTHEâs forthcoming compilation release featuring their new EP, The Fading Promise Of Tomorrow, and their 2020 debut, Elegies Of Loss And Doom.
Forged in 2018, the NEPENTHE collective emerged from a shared desire to compose music that leaves a lasting impression on the world. Although rooted in doom and atmospheric black metal, NEPENTHE expands these genresâ boundaries by incorporating elements of post-metal, goth rock, and neo folk. The result is an emotional soundscape that traverses both beauty and dejection, exploring the complexity of the human condition through haunting melodies and evocative arrangements.
The bandâs lyrics draw philosophical inspiration from figures such as Friedrich Nietzsche and Charles Baudelaire. By interlacing vivid imagery and rich symbolism with dark acoustic passages and ethereal atmospherics, NEPENTHE evokes a profound sense of existential reflection.
In November of 2020, NEPENTHE released their debut EP, Elegies Of Loss And Doom, earning recognition from the underground doom and black metal communities. Their upcoming EP, The Fading Promise Of Tomorrow, marks their first new musical output in four years. Across both releases, vocalist Konrad Schröderâs impassioned delivery guides listeners through themes of loss and dread, prompting them to confront lifeâs darkest truths.
Comments Schröder,  âFor this offering, we have decided to pair Elegies Of Loss And Doom with our new EP, The Fading Promise Of Tomorrow. Part of why we did this was simply because Elegies⦠has not yet had a physical release. However, we also feel that â¦Fading Promise⦠is part of the evolution of our sound. We felt that it was important to bundle the two releases to showcase this. We view â¦Fading Promise⦠as a way of wrapping up an era of sorts, and are very happy with the results. We are still going to continue as a black metal adjacent band, but we are always trying to push our sound and write more ambitious music.
âThis growth can be heard in the eponymous track of the EP, âThe Fading Promise Of Tomorrow.â The track is mainly instrumental, only broken by spoken word lyrics and choral vocals. We wanted to use this song to showcase our influences of neo-folk, ambient, and orchestral music. It was a challenge to ourselves as we wanted to show that we can write compelling music in genres other than just metal.â
Decibel hails a “powerfully atmospheric release,â adding, âthis double feature promises to be both a culmination and an evolution of their signature sound…NEPENTHE‘s commitment to sonic exploration is apparent across both EPs, each track serving as a testament to their growth.â
