REVIEW – When it comes to watching a film, everyone has a different experience. Some people love a good laugh, while others seem to revel in misery. REVENGE OF THE SPACEMEN is one of those movies that I believe will not resonate with most viewers. This film pays homage to the campy horror and science fiction of the 1950s and is filled with an abundance of cheesy elements. Providing an in-depth description of this film may spoil the fun, but I can offer a somewhat vague plot summary.
In the movie, Ohio witnesses its first flying saucer sighting, and as you can imagine, the beer-drinking, gun-toting locals are having none of it. We soon discover that these aliens have a peculiar affinity for anal probing, indiscriminately subjecting anything that moves to their bizarre examination methods. The film essentially turns into a wild frat joke, with an oddball personality that is hard to resist. While some might be overly critical of the film due to its limited budget, I believe it actually highlights the creative effort that went into its production. REVENGE OF THE SPACEMEN delves into its characters and material, making it a story that’s not easy to forget.
However, the film does have its drawbacks. Some of the gags in the movie feel repetitive and test one’s patience at times. The pacing is inconsistent, contributing to the film’s peculiar tone. Nevertheless, the acting surprisingly shines in this film. It’s evident that the cast was enthusiastic and eager to have a great time. Yet, it also appears that the film struggles to find a clear identity, with an abundance of characters that can be challenging to keep track of. Additionally, the portrayal of the aliens could have been executed better.
In conclusion, REVENGE OF THE SPACEMEN is a fun watch if you’re seeking a cheesy, low-budget film as entertainment. It possesses enough personality to appeal to casual viewers, but it’s not without its flaws, which may deter some from fully enjoying the experience.
