Jason Crews is the owner and editor of INFRARED MAGAZINE and a Dallas–Fort Worth-based music journalist and concert photographer. Through INFRARED MAGAZINE and JASON CREWS PHOTOGRAPHY, he covers rock, metal, country, and live music with a focus on album reviews, artist features, concert coverage, and photography. His work is driven by a genuine passion for music and helping artists connect with new audiences through honest writing, strong visuals, and meaningful storytelling.
Dallas’ Deep Ellum Arts Festival returned April 6–8, 2018 for its 24th year, transforming six blocks of Main Street into a sprawling celebration of visual art, live music, food and the character of one of the city’s most recognizable entertainment districts.
The free three-day festival stretched through Deep Ellum from Malcolm X Boulevard toward Exposition Avenue and featured more than 200 juried decorative and visual artists. Festival programming also included a large slate of bands, singer-songwriters and other performers spread across multiple outdoor and indoor stages.
Visitors could browse paintings, sculpture, jewelry, murals and other original works while artists created pieces throughout the weekend. The event also brought food and drinks from concessionaires and neighborhood businesses into the festival footprint.
One of the weekend’s longtime traditions, the Deep Ellum pet parade, returned on Sunday as part of the festivities.
The 2018 edition ran Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with free admission throughout the weekend.
