uned Up Music is currently streaming Burn Holy, the new full-length from Portland post-doom metal collective BURIAL CLOUDS. The premiere comes in advance of the record’s official release Friday, May 22nd.

BURIAL CLOUDS’ music lives in constant tension between beauty and rage, crushing riffs and intricate expanses walking the lines between inner and outer worlds, healing ritual and seditious fire. Every song is a meditation on what it means to live with a gentle, livid heart in an inhuman age.

Writes Tuned Up Music, “Portland-based Burial Clouds is a five-piece of equal parts chaotic dissonance and shimmering ambience. Now, on their latest album… the group takes their ferocious brand of doom metal to the next level… Burn Holy is a record of unease and sharp contrast.”

BURIAL CLOUDS’ debut album, 2023’s Last Days Of A Dying World released via Church Road Records, was met with praise from both fans and critics alike. Kerrang! likened it to like “walking into the ocean and being crushed by the waves,” while Outlaws Of The Sun lauded a record that’s as, “…heavy, epic, and emotional as they come.”

Subsequently, they embarked on a successful run through their home turf of the American Pacific Northwest, followed by a UK tour, culminating in an appearance at the renowned Arctangent Fest. The following year saw significant lineup changes. Founders Matt Mitchell and Flynn Hargreaves remain on guitar and bass respectively. Marina Lavelle, who was the central figure in the video for “Beirut Shores,” makes her debut with vocals that range from searing, unhinged hostility to delicate vulnerability and soaring expressiveness. Her introduction brings a new and enthralling dynamic to both the sound and perspective of BURIAL CLOUDS music. Bryce Ramsey, previously of Trials, a juggernaut of a player whose approach is as soulful as it is technical, has been recruited on guitar. The multi-talented Tim Iserman, of Salo and Beguile and formerly of Ritual Veil, brings their ferocious, feral energy to the drums. From the crucible of songwriting and DIY recording and production, a newly reformed BURIAL CLOUDS emerged with their best work to date: Burn Holy.

“Windflower’ is dangerously enchanting right from the beginning. Crooning vocals that just barely transition into wails tease around sudden bursts of distortion and juxtaposed with shots of bloomed white flowers. It doesn’t take long for the track to enter in full force into a dirge of colossal riffs and howling shrieks that unravel with a command that mirrors seasoned veterans of the aforementioned genres. It’s heavy, dynamic, and delivered with much character.” – Everything Is Noise on “Windflower”

“Burn Holy is a complex and brilliantly daring album that BURIAL CLOUDS should rightly be proud of and one that could establish them even further within the underground scene and beyond.” – Outlaws Of The Sun

“…a delightfully dreadful album that seems to mirror a given person’s life. Sometimes, you are angry beyond belief, while other times, time passes gently. Through it all, however, hangs a depression in the air that acts like a grey cloud of sickness, and it follows you everywhere. Warning…do not listen if don’t have a strong constitution, because it could bury you forever.” – Metal Temple

“…more a psychological experience than a collection of songs, and taking on BURIAL CLOUDS’ strength is something to behold. The first journey should be in isolation, with no distractions, so the terror and beauty can melt and drizzle like a mind-altering syrup. This album is a fuller experience for this band, one that transforms them as a lineup into a creative entity, a journey that should cement them as one of doom’s most fearless.” – Meat Mead Metal, Pick Of The Week

“…a record that demands patience from the listener, but offers far more than atmosphere in return. Its true strength lies in building intensity not through sheer volume, but through constantly shifting structural pressure. BURIAL CLOUDS are not reinventing the fundamental tools of the genre here; instead, they expand their identity considerably by pushing those tools into a form that feels more tense, more permeable, and more unstable than their previous material.” – Pitstop Metal
