“The idea came to me whilst reflecting on what has been a great year for ROBOTS IN LOVE. And it’s due to the connection, both musically and personally between the band. We’ve toured a lot and wrote and recorded together and it’s been 100% inspiring.” – Elenor Rayner

Musically, the song has some similarities to the band’s previous single, “The Sequel”. It has the electronic spine, overlaid with metal guitars and huge drums. But while “The Sequel” spoke of a dystopian future, “Crush” is way more uplifting. The chorus is a huge dopamine hit.

ROBOTS IN LOVE is a “cyber rock” band from Dunedin, New Zealand formed in August, 2023.

Known for their innovative production and explosive live performances, ROBOTS IN LOVE seamlessly merge the raw energy of metal with the hypnotic pulse of electronic music. Elenor and Alex both produce remixes of their tracks as well.

Elenor, being the vocalist and coming from the goth-industrial scene, has a raw, dark, intense and emotive style of production, using unconventional sounds and drawing on her experience producing hundreds of tracks and remixes. 

Alex, being the drummer and classically trained with a background in prog metal, has impeccable precision and detail. He adds drums, guitars, orchestral elements, backing vocals and creates the final mix. They are both adept at creating dynamics within songs which often begin with an eerie atmosphere and build to an epic, soaring finale. 

Elenor is from the goth-industrial scene. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, she has played in Soulscraper and Snog and was half of The Crystalline Effect with Pete Crane (Shiv’r). She has credits on more than 80 releases as producer, vocalist or remixer.

Alex is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist with a background in prog metal with 10 releases to his name and also plays in the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.

Tony has been an international session and touring musician for many years. Their skills make for a highly effective symbiosis which reviewers often mention:

Collectively, ROBOTS IN LOVE also delves into other genres including drum’n’bass, downtempo, dark wave and dark pop, and Elenor and Alex both produce remixes of their tracks.

“Crush” is their fourth single. It’s been described as a “pure hit of dopamine”. With their signature sound of synths and heavy guitars it’s fast moving and builds to an epic finale. The release includes a symphonic remix by Alex and video edited by Elenor.
