If their 2019 debut GastiR â Ghosts Invited conjured ghosts and 2021’s The Humming Mountain lingered in twilight realms, Braiding the Stories rises from beyondâthe âWhite Lodge,â as Gaahl describes it. Drawing from the subconscious, this new chapter threads dream fragments, inner voices, and sonic reverberations of the unseen.
Across nine tracks and 42 minutes, Gaahls WYRD traverse fluid states of memory and self. From the vulnerable grandeur of the title track to the ritualistic drive of âTime and Timeless Timelineâ and the cinematic dissonance of âAnd the Now,â the album is unbound by genre yet anchored by purpose. âI always work with the subconscious,â Gaahl says. âThis time, I wanted the listener to fall into the album.â
The album was produced by Iver Sandøy (Enslaved, Wardruna) at Solslottet Studio in Bergen, alongside the band. Guitarist Lust Kilmanâs solosâmelodic fragments carved like totems into each compositionâcarry much of the emotional weight, supported by Nekromanâs immersive basslines and Spektreâs meticulous drumming.
