“We have been blending hip-hop and pop-punk for nearly 25 years and it’s amazing to see how big that genre is now. ‘A Long Way Down’ is a perfect combination of heart-breaking melody and high energy rap,” says bassist Ben Osmundson.
Vocalist/rapper Ali Tabatabaee adds: “’A Long Way Down’ is about being stuck in a toxic relationship because you feel like you don’t deserve better. You settle for what’s in front of you rather than go for what will truly make you happy.”
Vocalist/guitarist Adrian Estella chimes in, “even though the feelings might be there, it’s best to walk away and find your true counterpart.”
The rebellious spirit, unyielding work ethic, and all-around good time is alive and well for the Orange County, CA-based punk-inspired rock outfit. Hitting the ground running with their new singer and guitarist Adrien Estrella, zebrahead have just returned from the Slam Dunk Festival and are putting the finishing touches on their forthcoming EP III.
Punk rock mainstays zebrahead are vocalist/rapper Ali Tabatabaee, vocalist/guitarist Adrian Estrella, bassist Ben Osmundson, drummer Ed Udhus, and guitarist Dan Palmer. In July, the band debuted their single ‘Lay Me To Rest’, their first to feature newly recruited Estrella.
Starting with the release of theYellow EP on indie label Dr. Dream in 1998, the buzz began and zebrahead signed to major label Columbia before releasing their full-length debut, Waste Of My Mind. Their second album Playmate Of The Year hit in mid-2000 to rave reviews, of which the album’s infectious title track garnered airplay on some of the planet’s biggest alternative stations.
Stupid Fat Americans EP was released as a Japanese exclusive the next year. The band spent the summer of 2006 on the Vans Warped Tour, and Broadcast To The World was released, an album that went gold in Japan in just a month. In 2008 the band released Phoenix, and Panty Raid followed in 2009, followed by Get Nice in 2011, and Call Your Friends in 2013.
Throughout all that life threw at them, zebrahead’s touring raged on and the band continued to bring their explosive live show to festivals like Reading and Leeds, Download, Southside, Rock AM Ring/Park, Summersonic, Punkspring, Fuji Rock, Groezrock, Pukkelpop, SlamDunk, Sonisphere, Hurricane, Greenfield, NovaRock, Area 4 and Highfield, to name a few.
Since their incarnation zebrahead has shared highs and lows, sold over two million albums to date, survived label changes, and earned a Grammy nomination from a collaboration with Motörhead. As they get set to once again bring their distinctive fun-filled sound to the masses with a new member, new music and lots of touring, the future is bright for the band and their worldwide family of fans and friends.
